I went to my dealer for a scheduled maint. I wanted the auto lock download (6849997-9 "Autolocking enabled at 7km/hr") The dealer told me that I had a different chassis that did not support the option.

I was wonder if anyone heard this before? I may have to check other dealers to see if this is valid.

Thanks.

For the 2006, I was told the same thing initially.
But persistance paid off and now we have it.

On my 05 T6 the dealer first said it was not possible. The tech called some sort of tech support line at Volvo, and the download was found.

I now have auto locks on both my vehs. Love it.

Thanks, for your responses.

I got a response back from my local dealer and here was what they stated

"We had to call Volvo and research your question. We can program the new software for the vehicle, we will need the vehicle here to research more into this programming, but the initial charge would be around $350 for the programming".

From reading the other posts, this should take less than an hour to do and at $98 an hour, this sure does not take 3 hours to do.

Tell them they are out to lunch. Try another retailer.

HOLY CRACK-HEAD BATMAN! $350.00 for a simple download!?

Bwoop, Bwoop, we have a new record for getting bent over!!!

I know EVERY dealer is different, but wow. Mine was complimentary, on both cars!

You need to get in touch with one of our friendly resident sales/service/parts guys on here, and simply ask them to tell you the software download #, and the few steps to get to it in VIDA.

Hint, wink, nudge to anyone that can help the folks here get this easy thing done.

Once you have that, take it to THAT dealer, and ask them why a 5 minute download will cost $350.00.

Like I said before, my dealer needed to do a bit of research as well, but that was taken care of with a phone call.

How does this work? Do the doors autolock after the car reaches a set speed, or does it happen when the transmission is put in Drive?

The doors are locked automatically once the car reaches 7 kmph.

The only exception if you unlock the door/doors while the car is in drive? it will not autolock them again

True, but if you open up the driver's door and then close it and start driving again, it will lock.

Re: (myxc90)

thanks for the info - do they unlock when the engine is turned off or when the key is removed from the ignition? (from what I've read it sounds like the former)

or the passenger door.
Car autolocked, just open door via latch (driver or front passenger), will lock again.

Doors stay locked when car stops. Have to use unlock button

Did not pay anything for the software

The doors will not automatically unlock.
From http://acctest.semcon.se/en-GB...1.htm:

FUNCTION FOR AUTOMATIC LOCKING

XC90 Automatic locking / add 6849 997-9
XC90 Automatic locking / remove 6849 998-7

Makes it possible to retrofit or remove the automatic locking function in your car.

This function automatically locks the doors in the normal way (not deadlocking) when vehicle speed exceeds 7 km/h.

If the doors are unlocked with the central locking button whilst driving, the doors remain unlocked until the ignition is switched off.

If one of the doors is unlocked with the lock button or by using the inside door handle, when exiting the car for example, the door will be relocked when the vehicle speed exceeds 7 km/h.

An open door will not be locked. The doors are not unlocked automatically when the speed goes below 7 km/h.

Its so great that the S40 and V50 allow the owner to decide what personal settings they want and can program them from the cars infotainment unit on the dash themselves

That's how it should be and is in many other cars. The XC90 is special.

Hi ... I know the XC90 is special .... I've test driven an XC90 T6 .... I have a humble V50 .. but would love a Volvo V70 R .....

Hey, I was being sarcastic when I said the XC90 is "special" given that things that are simple on other cars, including other Volvos, have been implemented in ways that make them complex on the Xc90 (MOST sound system, user setup changes, etc. are examples).
