I put one in my S70 and it bled within a year....nice thing though the Volvo warranty was for a year. Contact http://www.borton.com for the mirror...$51 now...maybe 60 with shipping.
I paid $39 for the part (includes wiring harness) from Volvo and as the posts mention, it is identical to the original. Volvo actually prices the kit cheaper than the individual unit.
Of course, it was installed on a single day before it went bad like the old one. Gonna see if the dealer will get me another.
How common is this? It looks like some of the liquid drained out......
I had mine replaced under warranty, then sold it to another C70 owner who'd had the same problem. I kept the old one, cut the back and the mounting point off of it, and bought a 17" panoramic rear view mirror for $35 online. I grafted the back of the old mirror onto the new panoramic one after some minor modifications, and screwed it back into place. The C70 sunvisors are longer than the S70 ones, so my next step will be to get some S70 sunvisors (with homelink, of course!), fit them into the C, and then figure out how to move the clips "outboard" to accomodate the shorter visors and longer mirror.
-Jon
Don't know...mine did the same thing...was awfully hot on the day it leaked all over the gear shift area...did clean up with alcohol. Got a free replacement due to 1 year Volvo warranty...Borton. Let's hope this second one stays working. I keep it off now unless I absolutely need it. Don't know if that has anything to do with things or not...but figure it can't hurt.
Yeah...keep those windows cracked if there is no chance of rain and try to park your car in the shade. Unfortunately for me, that's not an option (the shade) and a thunderstorm often comes up unexpectedly this time of year when just moments earlier the temp was in the 90's. No telling what the inside temp of the car is....I want tint on my windows very badly.
Damn it. My mirror just popped out! Need a fast fix. I am supposed to leave tomorrow for my California raodtrip. Will shop around to see if the dealer has the part in store (doubtful) or maybe at IPD's.
Any quick advice?
Darn. Car dealer says the mirror is 250$CAN ! Holy crap, thats alot of money. Of course they don't have it in stock. I had it glued yo the mirror stick/sphere. I will have to wait until I return from my 15 000 km California trip to have this fixed.
If anyone on the westcoast has an idea, and/or an extra mirror, let me know: [email protected] will be the email I can be reached at during the trip. Thanks.
Will try to do that. I am currently in Cody, Wyoming. Thanks heaven there's wi-fi everywhere in the States. My camping is wired, so I can use my computer. Will be in Seattle some time on the 3d or 4th of July. We are having a hell of a trip!
See ya all laters!
I replaced mine using the part number you recommended. Volvo had no description of the item but said that the part no. was a good volvo part number. Thanks, the first mirror I replaced cost me $130. This one was only $55. Do you have access to any other Volvo internal part no. such as a clutch kit. I think your mirror kit was at volvo cost and only meant for dealer applications.
