Is there any way to maintain the stock audio controls on the steering wheel with an after market deck?

Yes. Get the Dietz can bus adapter and connector cables.

Your head unit must have an input for steering/remote controls though - I've seen people who bought the wrong deck and could not hook it up.

see this thread for my install pics with an Alpine head unit.

Thanks for the info. I am considering the Sony MEX-GP1 head unit and the only reservation I have is the loss of remote control. How can I find out if this head unit will support the can bus adapter from Dietz? By the way, where did you get the slick decal/emblem to the left of your deck? Nice!

Not sure a about the Sony - here is a list from the Dietz site - you can contact them and see if they've developed one yet (just make sure your email is translated into German) The only one listed is the SONY MEX-100NV

here is were I bought my parts (via google German to English URL translator)

regarding the dash logo: I just made it myself - obtained a large copy of the volvo logo and then printed it on a removable sticker paper.

OK, thanks for the links. If it supports the MEX model you listed I'm willing to bet it will work the other one as well. In fact, I think that may be the euro designation for the same model. 1GB worth of music in the faceplate = pretty damn cool. Good job on the logo! I'll need to put something there as well...
