True 'Active-Suspension' technology is a pretty complicated subject matter. This term IMHO is used too often to generalize a suspension system 'changing' function. To be a real 'Active-Suspenion', a car must have a double-acting hydraulic actuator instead of springs and dampers. The Mercedes S & CL class cars already have an 'Active' type suspesions as does the new BMW 7-Series, as well as the Infiniti Q45 that was introduced way back in 1990.
But getting back to the subject, from reading the Audi press release, I can tell you that there is a major difference between the Volvo system and the Audi system. The Volvo adaptive damping system actually communicates with the Haldex AWD system depending on conditions. The beauty of Haldex is its CAN BUS integration abilities. From what the press release says, Audi's DRC does not communicate with Quattro AWD. The Torsen systems worm gears are purely mechanical, with the exception of the Quattro systems ELD (Electronic Differential Lock). The DRC's diagonal connection of the dampers sounds very promising though, I must admit.
But anyways, the RS6 is going to be one heck of a ride! All it needs is a manual transmission.
-Drew
