Re: As safe as Volvo's are, it still happens... (flybynight)

It was because Taco Time was closed. The confusion that follows Chicken Soft Taco cravings can cause you to do much crazier things than driving down a freeway the wrong way!

I am curious to know if the driver was wearing a seatbelt?..and what the speed of the 2 vehicles was?

Well, the second picture if you closely shows pretty amazing impact on the C30. The speed limit on that stretch of I-90 is 70MPH.

The Volvo was going the wrong way...

Yup, the Volvo driver is(was) 100% at fault.

That pick-up truck is something like 6,000-7,000 lbs, just about twice the Volvo C30, right? That's a lot to make up through better safety features.

My gut says alcohol was a major factor, but another possibility is suicide.

I'd go with alcohol as well. It is scary. I was driving down I-90 one time as well when a Toyota minivan was coming right at me in the HOV lane. Freeky.

I'd say suicide or senility. It doesn't matter how drunk you are, you wouldn't "accidentally" turn onto the wrong side of the highway.

That or she was just a complete moron.

Not necessarily. A lot of wrong way drivers were drunk.
