How does one know what octane is being pumped into our tanks? I only see one truck unloading fuel into one pipe in the ground. It's a mystery to me.

Volvo is the only brand of car where people who know better will "try" a lower octane than what the car requires!! Go on a BMW forum and talk about using a lower octane fuel and you'll probably get banned
+1 Traveling 15000 miles per year, using 24 mpg, with $.50 difference between grades the cost of using premium is about $300+ per year. That is $6 per week. if one cannot afford that Volvo is NOT the car for them.

I run 91 non ethanol whenever I can. Otherwise, 93 corn gas. Locally, more and more 91 ethanol free pumps are springing up. There are a lot of marinas and snowmobile trails around, so this seems like a no brainer. Every piece of lawn equipment I own runs on 91 non ethanol (2 or 4 stroke) and starts up with ease whenever I need it too.
