I can't find anyone who sells upgraded cams for the T5 engine. Does anyone know of any, or if any other cams fit (850/etc.)? I can handle a rough idle and worse gas mileage for a power increase.

Buddy of mine got some made based on specs from an Audi.
That said, he didn't have VVT. Not sure how that plays out, but being that it's hydraulic, I wouldn't count on finding anything.

Re: Are upgraded cams for T5s available? (mattdoc)

If none are supplied most will just have factory cams reground to different specs. Problem is since NO one seems to have done any real R&D with engine internals and what works and what doesnt it would be hard to judge what would even be beneficial without trial and error.
You could base your numbers off of known cam theory but still would have a hard time judging. You looking to make more peak power or torque?

I'm no expert in the field, so this is more of a feeler to see if they're available, and what options I may have. I don't have a specific goal in mind, just to make acceleration through 3rd gear as quick as I currently make it through 2nd. I also have dreams of a turbo...

In most cases (at least with the X70 and 850 series), NA cams reduce low end torque but increase top end HP.
Even still, these gains are miniscule compared to a turbo and good tune. Not worth the money IMO...

I got cam fever from riding in my friend's EVO VIII this spring (he winters it in a warehouse) and getting whooped by it on the highway in 3rd gear... He IS running 25lb of boost, though, so it's not exactly a fair comparison. I guess I'll just keep dreaming of the turbo.

Hey man you cant compare our cars to an EVO on 25lbs of boost haha. My fabricators making like 500whp on his EVO with that much boost lol. Our S40's cant keep up with that

Re: (S40Racer)

I had a ride like that in a Ford Lightning pickup about two years ago. Instead of the stock 351 Windsor it has a professionally built 598 cid 460 block and a BIG turbo, something like 104 mm. It's capable of 20-22 psi of boost but was conservatively set to about 14 PSI. The shift light is set for 7500 rpm, which is about 108 mph in 2nd gear (Turbo 400 GM trans instead of stock E4OD Ford). He stabbed the gas pedal at a real slow roll in low, shifted to second at the first blink of the light, shifted to Drive at the second blink, and coasted slowly to the intersection a quarter mile from where We started.
His "Other Lightning" still has the OEM 351 Windsor and a smaller turbo, something around 75-80 mm, It's His "Tow Vehicle" and daily driver. Even has a topper on it for the true "Sleeper Effect".
I wouldn't worry about more cam, just run more BOOST!
