I'm actually getting an S80 D5 this November, with German specs, as the car isn't even offered for the American market. I'm told the diesel fuel in the States is pretty "dirty" and the European diesels don't run well on it, plus the price isn't much different from regular I noticed when TDY in Texas last week. I heard on the S80 Forum that there are some diesel drivers on the S60 Forum who might share their experience with this engine. I plan to upgrade my D5 wtih the HEICO<br>motorkit, which boosts the HP from 163 up to a powerful 190 HP, plus the sport exhaust. Anyone done that with their D5? I'd be very thankful for any feedback if you've got D5 experience, or have put the chip upgrade in your D5. Best from Bavaria! It's a fast mofo.. <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://********************/smile/emsmile.gif" BORDER="0"> <p>It can outperform a standard T5 with the chip upgrade.<br>One minor downside is that it runs in to the top speed limiter rather fast.<br>It can be anoying on the German autobahn.

Bavariaman,<p>I have (or should I say had, as I crashed mine 2 weeks ago) an S60 D5.<p>+'s Fast, agile, very low average consumption, comfortable, beautiful car<p>-'s on the engine only one, a vibration (noticeable in 5th) between 2900 and 3300 RPM (which equals between 145 and 165 KM/H)<p>Best proof of the car? If and when my car will be a write-off (lease and insurance company still deliberating about it) I'll go out and buy another one. Definitely the best Diesel for your bucks

Have you thought about who is going to service the vehicle. Are the Volvo mechanics trained to service a diesel. This may be especially problematic if as you say the fuel in this market is not as clean as the fuel in Europe.

80-120 kmh is just unbelievable with this car and the power in 5th on the highway is gigantic.<br>It's the torque that counts, in the long run it will reach out of breath but it's gearing vs torque curve makes it fly in to the 210 kmh limiter. <p>I think it reaches ~420 Nm (309 lb-ft) with the tuning.........<BR><BR>

Chipped S60 D5 : diesel with supercar-performance (no topspeed prowess though

i remember my v70 d5 was pretty fast on the 'autobahn' between fra and weisbaden. it had plently of pull and i never thought that it was underpowered. i took it up to about 150 kph.
