Ok, before I plonk down $250, am I pissing in the wind?
Drive and Play by Harmon Kardon has a system.
Their unit, plugged inline, with the Harmon Kardon FM modulator that plugs directly into the antenna "IN" line.
This will have to be done via a "regular everyday antenna male connection to Volvo weirdo antenna connection adapter".
So, anyone dunnit?
is it good?
or does it still sound like a piss poor FM modulator?
don't want to spend $250-$300 to find out.
thanks
kevin

A few people have done it, including myself - however, see my post right below yours as I'm not convinced mine's quite right yet. That said, I've never used another FM modulator so I've got nothing to compare it to.

Re: (Andy Wehmeyer)

That would be lovely. Are they planning to release something compatible with the MOST stereos in the S40/V50/C70 and XC90?
I don't even have my Volvo yet, and already I am a cynic.

Re: Anyone tried Drive and Play with hardwire via antenna input? (mgcarma)

So far I am not satisfied.
The harman/kardon control knob and display unit work like a charm, I'm already totally in love with it.
However, the audio quality so far is horrible, it sounds like over-amplified (for want of a better word) and heavily distorted, even at low volume.
The freaky thing is that, ever since they installed the harman/kardon FM adaptor (transmitter/modulator, I'm not sure; in the h/k installation manual it's referred to as "adaptor", my wireless FM transmitter (Griffin RoadTrip) that worked pretty decently before, now all of a sudden suffers from the same distortion/over-amplification.
Do you guys have any suggestions as to what might cause this audio distortion, and how it could be fixed?
From what I understand, the Volvo people soldered the FM adaptor's wires directly to the antenna wires behind the head unit because they couldn't figure out any other way.
Do you guys think that there might be a better way to connect those wires, or can you think of anything else that might improve this situation?
Many thanks in advance.
Britta
