I hooked up an amp in the back of my car last night ran some wires thought I had everything all done and called it a night. Drove my car to work today moved my seat back but a wire was tangled under my seat and pulled out one of the connections under my seat. Now I have a SRS-Service URGENT message. This has happened once before and I can't see throwing 120 dollars to the wind for Volvo to clear it. So does any one know have or know someone who has a VCT-2000 to clear the code.
Thanks
-Steve

I am also in need of this service, my SRS light has been on for a year since blowing a fuse and I would love to cut out the dealer.

Well if you can get to me I have access to the laptop to reset it so you don't have to pay the crazy amount just for a simple clearing of the srs light

I was under the impression that the airbag system was still working as it should. I had read a few threads about this message being generated and had gathered that the bags would still deploy in a collision.

I thought the SRS light was a generic light to have the codes reads, depending on which code was present would determine whether or not the bags would work. Most common was a circuit break code caused by removing a seat or stereo without disconnecting bettery first. If this was the case then the bags are still functional and the code just needs to be cleared. No?

Actually the system MAY function but the light is letting you know PART of the system may NOT function.
In this case it sounds like the Driver Side Bag would possibly not function if it was left unplugged. The rest of the system WILL operate in the event of a severe enough crash.

Thats what I was learned at Vovlo Skuul.
Seriously though, that's what my instructor at Volvo Tech School told me. Even though the Message Light may be on, the system self checks at every startup so in the event of a crash the rest of the system will operate. Safety is #1...right?
Could you imagine the lawsuit if the system failed to work just because someone had a rear fold down seat out and turned the key on to irritate the SRS light but plugged it back in only to crash down the road and the SRS system not function.

right, the light can come on for a number of reasons, some of which don't even have anything to do with actual air bags. I don't know enough about it really but theres somethiong about the SRS system being linked to the center dash and seat, some CAN BUS thing. Sounds like the circuits share a common junction or something so that any number of things may result in a SRS light. Often the light can be reset and no further trouble, the airbag system was fine the while time.
This is really just a guess, kinda a summary of what I have heard on the matter. I would encourage anyone who has the SRS light to get it checked out to be safe.
