Hi all,
It would appear that the "resistor" has gone bad in my old 850 (which still hangs around my house and gets used by my dad on occasion). I replaced the fan motor, so I know the problem isn't that, but the fan has stopped running. I suspect the "resistor" is now the culprit.
Anyway, I searched around and came up rather empty, but does anyone know if there's a way to fix the "resistor" pack for these cars? I'm hoping there's a $5 fix (like for the capacitors for the fuel pump relay and the resistor for the manual climate control), but I could not find any guides or anything. I vaguely remember reading something about how some transistors go bad in the ECC "resistor" module, but couldn't find anything of the sort...
So, if anyone happens to know of a fix, I would greatly appreciate it if you could share! Would love to not have to shell out ~$100 for a new module when just a little piece goes bad...
Thanks!

Simple answer, who knows!
No one to my knowledge has ever tried.
Buy the new resistor.
Didn't you know you're SUPPOSED TO REPLACE BOTH when you have the symptoms of a bad blower motor?

Well, here's hoping someone does happen to know!
And: meh, maybe I did, maybe I didn't know to replace both. Regardless, the motor was squealin' like a pig, and I'd pulled it out enough times that it really was no big deal for me to do anymore. Also, replacing two components at the same time in order to diagnose a problem is hardly scientific! Kinda hard to keep tabs like that...

Sorry, Jim.
That said, which system are we talkng about here? Manual or electronic?

Thanks for the reply.
This is in reference to the electronic climate control (ECC). I found a repair guide for the manual climate control resistor pack over on VolvoSpeed, and am hoping there's a fix for the ECC resistor pack as well... :-/

Edit:
Well, I guess I just wasn't looking right yesterday! I thought I had seen info on this fix before... It is a transistor which goes bad. Here's the thread talking about the fix. Now I just need to find a source for the transistor...

Re: (StarmanDXE)

I seem to recall someone posting about replacing the final output device
on that powerstage.
I think it was either at Matthew's or VolvoSpeed...
No it IS correct.
You don't know if the resistor burned up when the motor took a crap....or did a bad resistor burn up a motor?
It's not always easy to tell which came first, the cart or the horse, so most shops around here just replace both as there's no extra labor to do that!

Well, found another thread with pictures.
Also, I think this transistor would be quite a good replacement, but, regardless of the fact that it's the same dimensions, I have no idea if the TO-3PN is made any differently than the TO-3PB which would cause any problems... (Why must electrical components be so mysterious?!)
