I saw this special on the Utah Salt Flats and the 130 MPH club where you have to hit 130 MPH in a 1 mile strecth. <br>I was curious if any R owners are in this club?

I'll be back in an hour. I'll see if I can do it on I-65. Only THEN will I go to the Salt Flats.

If you say you only hit 132mph in 0.9mi. on a track, I bet you can't do in on salt.

I would think by 3rd gear (above 60) the salt surface would give enough grip to avoid any slip with AWD.<p>When Top Gear did their runs on the salt flats, getting a "bad launch" didn't effect the trap speed nearly as much as mistakes made later in the run (missing a gear). They got the biggest improvement from adding a ton of PSI to the tires to reduce the drag between tire and salt at high speed. When they lowered the PSI of the tires to increase grip at the launch, they ended up trapping SLOWER.

I saw a program on Speed Channel where a guy (show host) did it in someone else's stock Audi S4--just made it over 130 mph. Not the best driver and not the best start. I bet the R can do it. An R with a few mod's could definitely do it.

FWIW, Top Gear got the following results in the following cars at the flats standing mile:<br>2009 Charger SRT8 - Target was 150MPH, final result was 150.02 MPH<br>2009 CTS-V (556HP) - Target was 160MPH, final result was 163 MPH<br>2009 ZR1 - Target was 170MPH, final result was 176.549 MPH (which happened to be a new record for production cars!)<p>Given that the RWD, slushbox, heavy-as-an-aircraft-carrier Charger managed 150MPH, I really don't doubt the R could do 130MPH, even with heatsoak (after all, my data from the track is obviously quite heatsoaked as well).

The frontstrecth of Gateway International Raceway is 1,922 feet. I hit 139mph before I hit the brakes going into turn 1 of the road course there. That is probably the fastest I ever had the R.

Do you know the distance from turn 7 to turn 1? That's a lot of oval banking there to pick up speed...
