Being an automotive enthusiast I visit forums that support my brands, and of course this forum is fabulous when it comes to getting good info and advice, for fun, education and help!!

We've heard a lot about the torque of the 2.5 and the seat-of-the-pants wow factor of the V8, but we need something more than driving impressions.

Hopefully we can find a reliable source that uses the same methods and equipment that has tested all of the XC90 models. Perhaps there is an outfit in Sweden who has the info, Volvo surely has it but people like Autoweek, Pistonheads, Hemmings, whomever, may also have this info.

Someone please post this, It think it would be a real hit here.

best,

P

This europen site aggregates data from various sources so you can compare
and "duel" cars:

http://www.zeperfs.com/en/match1415-1444-1301.htm

Above setup to compare the V8, 2.5T and D5A.

In this case, they don't have the 3.2 or T6. The also don't seem to have much on the
2.5T (odd). Down at the bottom you can "duel" the different pairs. Try the
D5A and the V8 and you will see more data then if you do the 2.5T and either
of the other two (D5 or V8). I'm assuming the 2.5T is the limiting factor.

Not everything you were looking for, but entertaining for a few minutes.

C/D tested a 2007 XC90 Sport and here are the results:

http://media.caranddriver.com/files/2007-volvo-xc90-sport0705-volvoxc90-comparo-ts.pdf

I still can't believe it came in 6th out of8. I still think it would have placed higher if they added some winter shoes rather than the OEM Pirellis. I bought one anyway!

Excellent and thanks. This is a real world test at 7.2 seconds 0-60 and 15.5 in the quarter mile. This is about as official as it gets in my opinion. Now we need to find similar trusted data on the other cars. By the way, the 0-60 web site says the 3.2 does 0-60 in 9 seconds, while Volvo says it does it in 8.4.

Clearly the car with the bigger motor wins, but by how much is the question I have. I still contend the 3.2 is no rocket but is a fine piece of equipment. Is it as fast as the V8? No.....of course not....but it requires no balance shaft, it no longer has a belt driving the cams, and it does not have a turbo (heat, maintenance and cost) so I am hoping it is going to be nice to live with.

Good speed info guys.

best,

Paul

edit: Here is somewhat of a validation on the 8.4 seconds 0 to 60 performance of the XC90 3.2
