Anyone have any comments on the HT-841 Subwoofer add-on?
http://www.volvocars.us/models/s40/Accessories.htm
I was thinking of getting this with my '07. Any negatives besides the slight reduction in trunk space height.

I must disagree with the above poster. I think the sub from Volvo is very tight and there's a heck of a lot of it. Unless you go crazy listening to music with tons of bass I think you'll be very pleased with the premium sound system + subwoofer. I'm impressed more each day.

I very much enjoy the volvo subwoofer...the sound is incredible. Sure you can buy an aftermarket set and make your trunk and panels vibrate, but I find that annoying. Volvo did a great job with their stock stereo components, to include the sub.

damn it chewy... it's so hard to read your posts.
And no, don't go with aftermarket with this system. Either get the Volvo sub, or be like a lot of people that have problems trying to add a new sub. There are issues with the fiber optics, getting a Clean Sweep, losing a signal, etc.
From my experience, the Premium System without the sub sounds fantstic when it is EQ'd well.

There's no labor charge if you get this from the factory. I believe the price I was quoted from a dealer for installation afterwards was $810 including the sub itself which is on the low side of some of the estimates I've seen posted here.
The factory put mine in so it was just the cost of the part.

Re: (S40FUN)

If not that route, you can get a Basslink II setup, which on ebay will run you no more $250. I have that installed on top of the Cleansweep that I got. The basslink isnt thumping, but it does a great job on filling in the low end. I have put the sub in the rear corner, takes up barely any room.
I'll pictures up soon, as soon as i get my new tires in.

Re: (Wish2k)

the amp is in the rear and there should be little issue tapping it for a aftermarket sub.... I'll do mine soon, right after the LSD, and the N20 injection...

Go for it, you will not be disappointed bearing in mind that this is an 8" sub with a 140W amplifier.
I retro fitted the sub into my V50 and it sounds a whole lot better than the Boston 12" setup in my wife's S40. The bass is nice and tight but playing with the equaliser can make the car vibrate as well.

i have had no porblems at all wiht my subs i had them installed by a good quality audio shop that knew what they were doing, one could easily get 1 10 inch sub installed for under 400 if they buy parts on ebay, and in my oppinion it would sound better and thump harder than the volvo sub, and be way cheaper.

Re: (Oldman)

I've been considering doing this to my XC90. Here is an EXCELLENT souce of info. It's kind of hidden in an FTP site, but jraymond did an excellent job documenting the procedure.
http://www.valley-infi.net/jraymond/xc90/subwoofer/
Hope this helps. Let us know how it went!

In my experience, while many aftermarket systems can offer better sound that stock stereos, it's much easier to mess them up. I think going with the Volvo option is a wise choice.

Re: (Raza)

The Volvo factory added sub rounds out the system very nicely. When I test drove the V50 I took one out with the premium sound with sub and then one without. It gives it that little extra without over powering the rest of the system. I would say go for it. Can't imagine mine without it now.

Re: Anyone have any comments on the HT-841 Subwoofer add-on? (treacherous)

Had mine installed back in May, no issues yet but I don't push it that hard. Heard a few grumblings of overheating.
The install price was $167 by Volvo, entire cost was $767 and included the install and upgrade to the audio, which only Volvo has, a $22 program. $1K sounds way excessive, they can cut you a better deal and you can save on the taxes in some cases if "they" say it was shipped to you instead of the dealership (aka on-line purchase).
I like the fact that this sub is covered under warranty for the next few years, something an aftermarket rarely does. Checked into aftermarked and was not thrilled about someone trying to splice into the doors not to mention not having the bass (freq/mhz) adjustable from the dash and the box took up too much room. That said, a quality aftermarket system blows the little sub out of the water but personnaly didn't want anything that would thump the neighbors while they're trying to enjoy a quiet dinner.
Careful about the on-line folks dishing the sub for real low prices, there are quite a few of little items that add up like the fiber optic wiring harness and floor supports to name a few. The parts sometimes go unmentioned until you receive the sub and can't install it without the other parts. Can't find the receipt for mine...placed a post back in May that had the breakdown and cost for each part but a search did not reveal it.
I think the little sub gives a very nice balance and is very rich with the volume low, something my old heavy pounding aftermarket couldn't do. It's all about what satisfies your thirst.

Re: (ewizzle)

No, only a little height, the sub fits under the floor around the wheel well. This requires a slightly higher floor, which the awd versions already have but FWD versions will require new polystyrene underfloor spacers.

Does anyone have any pictures of the factory subwoofer installed? It would be nice to see how it all comes together.
