Checked both gear fluids today.....
Trans fluid was 4 oz low.....angle gear checked out as it should, right up to the fill port.
Does anyone know what acts to seal the fluid in the trans housing at the output shaft? When the lip seals come out and the coupling and o-ring are removed, the trans seems to slowly leak out, but clearly not a rush of fluid as if the lip seals were the only thing keeping the fluid inside. Is the viscosity of the fluid flowing through the roller bearing at the output shaft all that keeps it from rushing out? Or is there simply a vaccuum condition.....meaning that if the fill port were to be opened up when the coupling and lip seals were removed then the fluid would run quickly through the roller bearing.
Does the green o-ring simply act to prevent metal to metal contact between the coupling and the bearing race on that roller bearing that is visible when the coupling and seals are removed?
Thanks-
Ben

theres a seal that on both sides of the tranny to keep the fluid inside of it . on both axles and then there is a seperate seal on the angle gear side on both sides of it to keep the angle gear fluid inside.
Its also the level that causes the tranny fluild to leak out.
If you put your car on jackstands and remove your axles flulid comes flying out .
If on lift and remove your axles none shoudl come out .
I have pics but I have posted them a few hundred times here so SEARCH

Thanks.....I did the spline coupling replacement in December, so I am familiar with most of the seals.
The trans is leaking fluid at the interface to the angle gear. Which of the two seals on the transmission do you think it would be? The one that seals the housing to the coupling, or the one that seals the output shaft to the RH axle shaft....
Also....you have posted pics of an M66 with the case split or the pics of the seals in that area?? I'll attempt some more searching.....
THANKS!!
