The XC90 was just picked up for scheduled maintenance. One the short list of to-do's was something my wife pointed out to me. The B pillar trim is kinda falling apart where the driver's seatbelt buckle rests. It appears each time the seat belt retracts, the buckle hits the same area of the trim and is damaging it.
I'm sure they'll just replace the piece, but I was curious if anyone else has noticed this.
The area where mine is damaged is in the red circle.

I will post the dealers answer.
Tim
EDIT....I just found this thread...it appears it was common a while back. http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=28324

haha, it looks like I was the second to respond on the other thread.
Ours is just as bad and now the passenger's side has started.
Our warranty expires in 5,000 miles , so I better get the ball rolling.
I'm very interested in how your dealer responds.

Our's is like that too, but we thought that it was not a big deal, but it's on the passenger's side too. Another trip to the dealer.

Re: Anyone else have this interior trim issue? (t6tim)

We had the same issue at about 35k miles. Our dealer said generally Volvo would consider this a user issue. However, he did replace ours as a warranty item .
The new pillar covering is also starting to wear due to the seatbelt buckle hitting it. I think the fabric covering the trim is nice but is really not the best type of material to put up with constant buckle impacts.

So far my dealer's service department refuses to say no to anything!
I'll advise as soon as I have word. We (I) can't wait to get it back. My wife has my S80 and I have the rental the dealer dropped off at my house...A Kia Rio Normally, it's a nice Volvo or a lux rental, but this was all that was left. Oh well, not my dime.
I just got back from some errands and let me tell you, the Rio is no power plant.
Tim

Same issue with the first XC, had it replaced and then I put in a clear plastic (Transparency cover) around the pillar. No issues

Re: Anyone else have this interior trim issue? (t6tim)

we had this problem with our first XC90; the dealer replaced the b-pillar trim under warranty. Of course that didn't solve the problem, it just re-set it.
I discovered that the split line on the injection molded plastic piece on the buckle was very rough. It seemed that it was the rough plastic that was tearing up the fabric on the trim. So I gently sanded the split line smooth and the problem went away...

There was a TNN on this a long time back and (if I recall) it was part of campaign 135. Look for damage on the seatbelt itself - any fraying is a safety item and should be rectified immediately under the SRS warranty (5 years any mileage).
Tom.

Good info, but how would a fraying belt cause that type of damage on the b pillar?
It's appears to be the buckle that's causing it. Everytime my wife takes the belt off she lets it whack the pillar.
Tim
