So I only ever drive in Advanced. The other settings are there for when I go over a crappy section of road.
Recently, in my sisters VR that I've been borrowing, the damn thing has been backfiring on rev matched downshifts. Or for that matter, any revs at all.
I just ran into a friend and decided I'd have him check it out from the outside. I turned the car on and tried it and nothing happened.
Turns out it's because I was in Sport. I hit advanced and the first time I let the car get to ~4k rpm and then engaged the clutch it snapped. Quite loudly too.
No CELs or other crap though.
Thoughts?

Advanced definitely has a different throttle mapping. That's the main reason why I'm always in it.
All I've done was remove the silencer from her intake filter. I had taken it out on my R and gotten used to the sound. Other than that, it's stock.

Well it's been hot this past month or so.
I doubt removing the silencer from the filter would cause that much of a difference in intake temperature though.
I figured most people remove the silencer.

A quick rev, as in one for a downshift, will result in a backfire on the R. It's stock, and it's completely normal. It's something i've heard of many times. Backfiring is just burning off the unburnt fuel, happens when shifting with a turbo car.

Sweet.
I figured it wasn't anything to be super concerned about with no CEL.
I've had quite a few manual Turbo Volvos. Just none of them like the R.
Now if I could only get money out of my insurance company to get back into an SR.....

If you want more backfire
use 3.5" DP with no cat.
You'll have some slight spark and flame

But it's not mine.
Not to mention it's on 17"s with Yoko all seasons, it feels like a limp noodle in turns.
The wheels/tires most certainly make a big difference. My SR had 18"s with Pirelli P-zeros. Biiiig difference.

As far as bigger sparks with a downpipe, I have one. I have a whole exhaust for an SR. Never got the chance to install it before the car got whacked.
