I've been wondering about this press coverage today (quite a few places have it!).

Doesn't mention if this is a styling exercise and modification of a current P1800 to take the V8 or indeed a full new car?

No details on what the shell will be made from. Only subtly different from the original too.

You guys are also aware of the Noble M600 (plus two other models coming) which is close to launch which uses the Volvo V8 with twin turbos producing 650bhp! On test at least Noble are running the engine at 750bhp! Therefore the new P1800's V8 producing 550 or 650bhp seems quite do-able.

Volvo too have talked internally about a 2 seater roadster designed as a new P1800…..both projects would be very nice to see.

I wonder what volume they are going for? Lets hope it doesn't get a Koeningsegg price tag!

Autoblog ftw.

I want wheels like that..

The rims are OK, but they're totally out of place for that car. They spoil what is an otherwise excellent re-iteration of the P1800.

The "drawings" are indeed appealing. But, they are just drawings. If the finished product is anything like these renderings, Volvophiles would line up in droves for a chance to own one.

A 600 bhp 4.4 V8!!! If that could be reproduced with just the addition of the turbo and an upgraded ECU, many XC90 owners would welcome the opportunity to have an SUV that would bury the X5, Cayenne, etc.

Folks. I hate to be the one to burst bubbles, but until this car is built and photographed with actual practical rolling stock, we may not actually see it in all its glory. The car will look radically different in the flesh (steel, alyoominiyum...whatever he uses) Right now, its a damn good looking collection of pixels pieced together in a virtual space rendered in a highres panoramic background. Probably StudioTools and Bunkspeed or something of that ilk.

Great idea! I too would love to see this thing BE. And goodness knows, the guy has the know-how and skills to actually do it. But until it's executed in the real, its just the Matrix getting us again.

Now if only Volvo had the stones they were born with - they might make our dreams come true.

True that! It would be nice if they formed a division with the tenacity and passion for racing and driving that they used to have with the old R Sport division. RWD platforms, factory race spec engines, track parts available over the counter...sigh.

Re: (kowalski)

I dunno, where is Volvo gonna find the funds to develope a RWD platform ... they pretty well shot themselves in the foot when they followed the crowd and went FWD and FWD based AWD.
