HAHAHAH well.. Im not sure if it will work... or how hard it will be to do...... but disconect your odometer... and if by anychance you ahve a GPS system it can tell you how fast you are going, without the odometer. I think there are also some that will tell you gas mileage, and like distance traveled, all sorts of neat stuff... Then again it is illegal...... so yeah..... So we are talking hypothetically rite..

SPENCER
BTW wut does ROLF stand for?

By the way, I think that it also shows up in the main computer. The computer and the odometer has to match or else the warranty is VOID. I am not sure about this, but I think it is usually the case on newer cars.
***ROFL : Rolling On the Floor Laughing??? **** (edit)

Re: Any Way to Alter Miles? (Kaizai)

yeah, the good old days of pulling the cluster and clicking the dial back a few miles are over. My VW is so old now it doesn't matter.
When cars in the 90s started going with digital odometers it made the used car guys think twice about rolling the ODs. Unless you fully understand how the information is stored in the cluster and/or ecu, then how the devices are programmed and then have the equipment to reprogram, you are probably out of luck.
Is the speedo cable the mechanism that increases the milage--do these newer cars even have speedo cables? Or is the ABS/Traction Control ECU how the mileage gets calculated?
It is shady to roll it back the OD but I understand what you are feeling. I drove 40k in one year and basically blew through all of the warranty coverage.

Wise Guy,
If you are wise enough, you know that it is illegal. And those who tried to help him out are also being involved in this illegal activity.
Please make this forum clean and civiliezed by not getting involved in any illegal question or advice. Thanks.

Re: Any Way to Alter Miles? (WiseGuyVolvoS60)

I think that the general consensus on the board is that it would be best to take the advice of the others and just not drive so much. Also if you really want to know reasons not to do this, just wait for Yannis to get back from vacation and ask him about this. Also it has been brought to my attention that there is no quicker way to devalue your car than to cause an odometer discrepancy. Sorry, this is my second post here, but I feel very strongly that this is not a good thing to do.

HeHe
It is possible to reprogram the odo thru vadis, of course HIGHLY ILLEGAL.
I had a customer try to trade in a 92 MB 300CE w/ 60K on its odo.
On my appraisal I felt that the car looked too shabby for the miles on it, ran a carfax and pulled up an odo discrepancy from Georgia.
The previous owner had the car registered there, showed over 100,000 miles on the last inspection. He moved to AZ in 96 and the car showed 40,000mi. Sold it to the current owner and now he has a worthless TMU car.
Needless to say the current owner was pissed.

Re: Any Way to Alter Miles? (WiseGuyVolvoS60)

don't bother. the mileage is kept in 3 different places in the S60 and all have to sync. when you get caught then your entire warranty will be void, regardless of how many miles you have.

Re: Any Way to Alter Miles? (Mr. T5)

A couple of things...
Rolling back mileage is illegal. Hypothetically speaking or not, it is against our user agreement.
Further, there's some flaming of WiseGuy later on down the thread. There's some useful info warning him and others against it, so I'm just going to close this, I'm not going to hole it (besides, that'd mean we actually have a "holed" message in the Black Hole forum.
So, sorry guys, I'm locking this.
