For S & G's I requested an account on the trucker site, Volvo North America http://www.volvotruckscommunity.com/ (on 9 April) thinking it would be cool to reach across the aisle to those guys and gals. I logged on for the first time today.
The structure of their site is very basic, pretty much just 1 layer. The biggest category of threads was in the "Garage Talk" with 203 threads. Most threads only got (1-5) replies. One thread was titled "Fridge?". :facepalm:
They discuss some of the same stuff as us. Fuel economy is huge for them, of course. Apparently, 5 mpg is very poor economy, 7 is acceptable, and 8 or above is good…..WTF! They also complained that dealerships charged too much money and rarely fixed anything but they never used the term "stealership" ha ha. One guy started a thread by asking how to shift this 14 speed truck he had just gotten then proceed to explain how he had 50 years of driving experience. no one responded.
I was going to introduce myself on their "New to the Board" thread but noticed only 4 of the 10 posts on page 1 of the thread got any responses, with the top one getting only 3 replies. No, it wasn't a female trucker either, it was a guy introducing himself by asking where he could get an owners' manual for his truck.
So, where I was hoping to report that it was cool reaching out to those guys….I have to call this one a snoozer. Just not enough of them I guess? Peeps from here might not get much "label loyalty" fun out of the truck site but, you can ask "Ice Road Truckers" Season One Star TJ Tilcox questions on there if you want!
