<br>Researched and found the following: Hans Sogell stated that the SC900 / SC901 are both state of the art system, build for incredible sound clarity. When you buy a CDR, you loose alot of the clarity. The sound is not fine and does not utilize the capabilities of the SC90X system. Because of the loss of the precise sound, the engineers, in their software programmed the unit to be able to detect a true cd by the "lag" time between files. Reduced lag time means that the owner is using a CDR. Some c70 are running units with upgrades, thus bypassing the programmed mod. This mods can be uploaded at your local Volvo dealer. Standard c70's are programmed to reject CDrs.

I would post this in the audio section! Also, Audioguy, our "resident audio expert" may know some more about this "upgrade". The 901 is an excellent unit; it plays my CDRs sometimes; I try not to play too many "burned" disks in my player! When it does work, the sound is still fine, but MUCH better with original CDs.

rrrrr...<p>are you sure about this... ive heard before that one can go into the dealership and get a software upgrade... is it as easy as you make it sound... my real question is what do i tell my local volvo dealer... "upgrade the software of my Sc 901 so that it reads CDRs"... im sure they'll have a field day with that one... if you can get a little more specific itd be really appreciated... thanks

Presuming there was a difference, I assume that there is no way then for someone to "upgrade" such a thing, it's more or less a 902, rather than a software upgrade.<p>I'd like to believe there is a solution to this CDR issue.... I just have trouble right now.<p>Anyways, if this is something we can shed some light on it could be a great benefit to just about everyone.

well, I am beginning to second guess my previous statement. A quick check of my version reveals ver. 1.03, 1.01, 1.03 (or something to that effect).<p>I'm now very curious to see what type of options there are as far as upgrading that, I'd love to get my CD-R's to play properly.

I have already contacted my dealer regarding this issue and I was told they would research it and get back to me on this... im due for an oil change next week so im hoping i can get them to upgrade my software... the service advisor i spoke to on saturday told me it was possible to upgrade software (generally) and he thinks it can be done to the audio systsems of 2002+ C70 but he is not sure at all and would get back to me... im givin him til tuesday then i start harassin <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/biggrin.gif" BORDER="0"> <p>I'll def keep you all updated...

You have 2 options:<p>1. Have the dealer upgrade your software. I believe that involves, pushing the 2 tabs, pulling the unit out...plugging some sort of a device at the back. Labour: 1/2 hour.<p>2. Pay $180, return your unit and receive a brand new unit with the updated software version. Plug it in and try your CDr's.<p>...For an expensive car, I'd wish they just allowed CDr's !!! yeah ive heard more expensive cdr's work ok.. namely memorex gold... ive been burning some that work ok unless u fill the cd up and try to flip to tracks in the 10+ range... at which point it will search endlessly.. I would definately be interested in the SW update if this is possible defly keep us posted! Well, the car is at the dealership now. I just got a call from my dealership today and they told me they were not able to find any specific bulletins or upgrades for the Sc 901 that make it read CDRs... i told them i heard about the procedure on a forum and they said they would be more than happy to help me out if i can give them a reference number or a bulletin number etc... my situation is pretty much like your sctyboy...! <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://********************/smile/emthdown.gif" BORDER="0"> <p>I also called my local parts department and asked them if there is an updated version of the Sc 901 (like maybe from the 03/04 model C70's) and they seemed to not know... the guy said they are all the same etc... i gave up trying to talk to him about it... im a little sad about all this...
