For anyone thinking of doing it, DO IT! Half hour worth of work, $50, better sound, less weight (minimally), no driveshaft whining when it rains, and if you haven't taken off the exhaust bracket yet you can get that done too at the same time.
I just drove from Arcadia to UCLA and so far it's been all smiles. The sound is deeper and smoother and the engine doesn't sound like a blender anymore. Off throttle trailing actually makes little blurbles and pops. I'm also getting more exhaust pops in between shifts even in this hot weather! I can also hear the turbo a little better with the windows down. What's more I think the engine is smoother too and there's less jerk when you take the throttle off which results in smoother shifting. Placebo effect? Maybe but I'm loving my "new" exhaust. This will probably hold me over for awhile before I decide to get the Jetex/Eurosport exhaust. Oh man when I got to the parking structure, the sound was like night and day. Really deep and throaty, I almost set off a few car alarms.
And for those worrying it'll be too loud, it really isn't. At idle I can barely tell the difference and on the highway there is no droning at all. So the exhaust is still quiet when you want it to be but now it's LOUD when you want it to be.
 to JRL.
Oh and for anyone in the San Gabriel valley area, I recommend to the shop I went to (Super Muffler on Live Oak and Santa Anita). Really friendly guys and the work looked pretty good. Only $50 too.

Sadly, I will admit to blipping the gas lightly like a 16 yr old while sitting idle at an intersection with the window down - not for the car next to me...just to hear it myself! lol
Oh, and yeah, now the exhaust pops all of the time. At slower speeds, a short hard jab and quick release of the throttle is enough to create the backpressure to do it.
-Eric

Re: Another satisfied "JRL Mod" customer. (s60rdood)

Yea I'll try to make some but I forgot to make "before" clips so there won't be anything to compare with unless you find someone else's sound clips. Also I'll be using a digital camera so the sound probably won't be too great. Just do it. You know you want to,
I think the concensus is to use aluminized SS. That's what my shop used. I think it's pretty standard.

Re: (Copeland)

So I made a brief sound clip while I was in the parking lot. Not particularly exciting as I didn't want to look like a retard revving his engine in a parking lot. I'll make more clips later if requested:
http://rapidshare.de/files/245....html

I've read a bunch of posts commenting on how great this mod is, but curious, the reference to;
"Oh, and yeah, now the exhaust pops all of the time"
Is this a good thing? I'm probably not understanding the meaning of "pops"

Re: Another satisfied "JRL Mod" customer. (Case)

Saw this thread last night, ran out and got mine done this morning. Sounds Excellent!
And yes, I had recent scoring on the drive shaft just forward of the bracket, which is also history.
Best part: $25.00.

Re: Another satisfied "JRL Mod" customer. (vLGrok)

I'll be going in this weekend for the "JRL X-treme" mod. Leaving the resonator and removing the muffler. If I like it, I'll record a clip and post it up. If it's too much, I'll go back in and get a performance muffler and lose the resonator.

Really stupid question, but I gather this is removing the resonator and replacing w/ a straight pipe? Sounds like a good cheap mod.
