So my story tonight is ... I was on a 25 mile highway trip to a customer and I was surprised how the R was able to boost quickly 2-3k and 8psi in less than a second. I got off the highway and the butt dyno said right away something is slow. I was able to boost up to 5psi under full acceleration. I made it to the customer and the car sat for 2 hrs( checked under the hood and no bad smell, didnt hear vac leaks, everything normal). On the way home I was still getting 5 psi boost. When I got on the highway in 3rd i pushed it to 70mph and got 10psi. As I got closer to home I stopped getting any boost and 3 miles from home it was really hard to go over 3.5 - 4 rpms and no boost at all. When you press the gas there is no misfire( runs smooth) but feels like its getting hell of a workout to accelerate or raise RPMs.
TCV or its gonna get deep in my pocket?

Re: another Boost problem (s140s)

Start with the freebies . Do a visual and mechanical inspection on the engine bay. Check your wastegate settings. Spend a good amount of time looking over the engine bay. I would say on a cool engine start looking at areas that would or could affect boost developement. It would make no sense to suspect the radiator Check all the TCV lines as well as the module itself. If you have to remove a heatshield or plastic cover, go ahead and do it, get to know your R a little better. Note removal of bolts and screws to ensure you put them back in the right spot. You may be experiencing a faulty boost pressure or IAT sensor. If it were a intercooler pipe you would most likely here a ridiculous hissing under the hood from boost escaping through that leak / hole. I would probably recommend changing out the TCV with IPD's unit. It is easy to do and if you have a decent amount of miles it is probably a needed replacement. If your R is not working right try and limit the amount of time you spend pushing the car unless testing or diagnostics to try and solve the problem.

Re: another Boost problem (kmg_S60R)

I will get alot of time to inspect the car on Wednesday but would a TCV or other sensor make the car feel like there is something preventing it from going through the RPMS smoothly. At the end of the drive it felt like driving with a huge trailer or brakes applied.

Sounds like a stuck-open TCV so you're only boosting waste-gate pressure which is 4-5 psi

Re: another Boost problem (xman03)

Yo s140, if you want to try another tcv, I have a factory one sitting in my workbench drawer. Stop up to Buffalo Grove and we'll throw it in. 53 to Lake Cook (East), Across the street from the Outback Steakhouse about 5 miles away from 53. I've tested it since removing it, and I know this one works (may not be *perfect* but it works). Let me know if you want to do that.
edit: s140 - I don't see IMs at work, so just post up here if you wanna swing by and try the tcv, ok?

Re: another Boost problem (s140s)

Similar problem happened to me.. in my case, the wastegate adjustment nut had come loose on its own. I was slowly losing boost one day - by the end of the day I wasn't boosting at all, only 2-3psi if i pushed it hard at high speeds. I re-tightened the nut to original position and the car was back to normal.

For a free chance that it may just be in reduced performance mode, do a battery reset. There are some detailed posts on the battery reset I've written.
Basic reset is unplug Negative battery cable and place it on the Positive battery terminal for at least two minutes. This drains any capacitors in any module memory. Upon reconnecting the Negative cable, the network will reboot.
Sometimes this works but you may have an underlying problem with any number of sensors.

Problem solved - I decided to go after the boost related components and I hope i have only simple things like this in the future. (I never tweaked the wastegate and was surprised to see what I did)

See! Freebies! Now to get it put back here is what you need to do. Thread it back on until it developes initial resistance or the gate is seated from there make two additional turns and this should put you close to where you need to be without going to a shop. That's 6 Patron shots of advice so take it for what you think it's worth I would say a lot or not!

Re: (JoeLvo)

it was in the bike section with a gauge, I modified the house with one that I got with my old Tire Inflator that had a nice lock for valve stem then I put in the piece from a compressor blow gun and I was good to go. (Its a very good fit, without any leaks)

Edit: I can send u the picture of the setup later tonight

Re: (s140s)

Im just glad one of us is all set.
I have a devil of a time turning my wastegate thimble (ok, that means I *cant* get it to turn), so I'm hoping that using the pump will alleviate (sp) some of the pressure on the thimble, so I can set the darn thing.

Re: (JoeLvo)

A light shot of penetrating oil (WD-40 works fine) and a enough heat could be produced by a hair dryer on high heat and low blow Heat off and on for 1 minute 5 times then with a small pair of angle nose pliers it should turn with little effort, if the pliers are even required, maybe just a good pair of mechanics gloves
