Just had my alignment done again, requested 0 toe from my indy. Side hop now pretty much gone. Michelin Pilot sport A/S plus @39psi 5k miles stock suspension.
Thinking out loud here, when the car side hops the rear end leaves the ground correct? Would this have any added stress to the collar/spline due to transfer of power to different wheels when the car sensed slippage of the rear wheels (in the air). Does that make any sense? Also, what is this doing to the wheel bearings that seem to fail regularly.
I have 51k on my 07 and have not had any failure of the angle gear/spline/collar but you all have me scared to drive this thing. The car is all stock, never driven hard (wife owned it for the first 46k then it got handed down to me). The hardest it has been driven is short passing bursts, 70 to 95 or so and 55 to 80 or so. Hasn't seen redline yet, maybe 4500 to 5000rpms tops.
Haven't had the fluids changed yet but plan to in about 5k miles.
Will throwing this car around in the snow expedite failure?
Is it easier on the car to drive with DSTC off?
I've read with interest all of the threads I could handle on these weak points and would love to see a permenant fix as I plan on runnng this till it dies. VIP warrenty should help.
Boils down to this, what can I do other than constant fluid changes and driving like a grandpa to help this thing along.

Makes me sad that this forum has made you drive it like a *insert favorite flame*. Use that horsepower. Over 16mpg (assuming half highway) is not OK!
DSTC off for almost anything. It is not safe, it will make you slide backwards down a hill in the snow. (no, really it will)
I see you are fairly new. Don't take offense, its rough around here... be glad JRL didn't find you first.
And to directly answer some things: 1 - throwing it around will likely cause earlier failure. This is true for ANY machine, vehicle, etc. 2 - The failures are not necessarily related to beating this car, just engineering. They may or may not ever happen, even though they are often talked about they are not by any means an eventuality you will have to deal with. Now hit your gas pedal.

Re: (imageomega)

Thanks for the replies...I didn't mean to say I'm driving it like a Grandpa, far from it. My wife babied it for the first 46, now it's mine. I drive 30-35k a year and like the back roads. I know how to drive and enjoy what I have every chance I get, I was just looking for opinions on what can be done to minimize damage i.e. driving with DTSC off, eliminating side hop etc...

Re: Another 0 toe convert (MagoonR)

I did the waste gate tweak last night at 3 A.M. and set it to just under 8 psi. After the tweak I test drove it and noticed I couldn't keep any traction, although I did have fun drifting a 90º turn. I never really had an issue with spinning tires, but now I do. The wife test drove it today and said the same thing. Would you recommend an alignment to 0 toe to try and correct this? The Pzero's I got on are practically new, but as I said before, I wasn't breaking traction before the tweak. Also seems like the rear is breaking free more than the front. But I have only driven it once today. The 0 toe would only be the front right?
Edit: 39 psi all around.

Hard to spin out the rear wheels if the AWD is out.

In the right conditions (cool temps), if I make a sharp 90 degree turn from a stop and stomp it, I can get the sensation of the rear end stepping out.

Re: Another 0 toe convert (I Roll)

Yes I was driving it a bit more aggressive at low speeds just to test out the tweak. But I do similar drives just to shake the cobwebs off. Usually the only times I would ever get all four wheels spinning would be trying to launch on wet pavement. The vehicle is driving fine with the exception of this. Maybe the Pzero's arn't as sticky as I remember them to be. I only took off my PS2s last week. Been 5 years since I had Pirelli's on.
