2 years ago I had my angle gear resealed by the dealer under warranty. Well, sort of resealed, I had to come back a day later because of a puddle of oil under the car because it wasn't sealed properly. I didn't have any more issues until lately, but my angle gear is looking as wet as it was before the original reseal.

I called the dealer and they quoted me $800-900 to reseal it. What are my options? Could it just be the vent weeping? Can I just refill it every so often?

At that price they're probably including a resleeve as well. I'm in the same boat currently.

You could probably just keep topping it off for the time being.

i paid around 540 to have my weeping fixed. That shop is around 200 miles away.. so technically if they had my car for a day and a half.. and I stayed at a cheap motel.. Id still save a nice amount.

Dealer charged me around $1200 for a re-sleeve and reseal.

The stealership here quoted $1000 for just reseal, no re-sleeve. That's pretty much in line with the rest of their pricing scheme as far as I can tell though. I called up the only volvo indy shop here and they quoted $300 for the reseal, so I think I'll be heading over there when I can find time.

Resealing makes sense, but never heard of an angle gear "re-sleeve" before, what exactly does that entail?

I've heard of some people just replacing the gasket/seal for the prop shafts as well. Is that what you mean?

The AG has a metal sleeve with teeth in it, sometimes those teeth get worn down to nothing and you have to replace it.

Ah, got it. And resealing is a good time to get that replaced if it needs it? What about preventative replacement? Guess I never realized those repairs were better done together to minimize labor.

Best to do at the same time cause if you have to get a resleeve in let say 2 months of a reseal then you will be wasting the money on a reseal now. They can always check it before the reseal and see if the sleeve is worn down or not. Some people never have the problem, some have. Its just one of those things that differ from car to car.

I believe the 06-07s have a more rugged sleeve then the 04-05s and the sleeve is different on manuals the it is on automatics.

European Motors in Reading PA quoted me $500 parts & labor for the resleeve - not sure what the reseal would cost in addition or if it's included in that price. Worth the drive to save $500? *shrug*

Lee quoted me $650 for a reseal, $950 for resleeve. They're kinda in your neck of the woods.
Lets' see here.
$650 for an angle gear seal job, very fair
Collar gear itself costs about $60
NO EXTRA LABOR TO INSTALL AT THIS TIME AS IT HAS TO BE REMOVED ANYWAY
"Re sleeve" is a rip off

Well it turns out the angle gear doesn't need resealing, just the axle shaft seals in the angle gear. $50 for parts, about $200 for labor at an indy.

Thought I dodged a bullet till they told me one of my front struts is leaking...

The sleeve itself doesn't need to be removed for a reseal so you will have to factor in labor for the removal and install of the new sleeve (which I've heard can be a bitch to remove). The dealer will also overcharge for the sleeve kit (vs if you buy it from tasca and go to an indy to install it) if you go that route.

Here is what my bill looked like for a new sleeve and for a reseal from a local indy

All-wheel drive doensnt work too well when the sleeve looks like this

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/colovolvo/7639690230/" title="Untitled by colovolvo, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8288/7639690230_1815382253_b.jpg" width="768" height="1024" alt="Untitled"></a>

They had to use a little bit of force to get it out because it didnt want to play nice. This is from removing it
