Android Auto / CarPlay retrofit - prior to 2015.5 model years

I know a few have installed an Android Auto / Carplay capable retrofit to the 2015.5 and on vehicles, but has anyone installed one in an earlier model year? Talking 2011 through early 2015?

I had a rental a few days last week and it came with Android Auto, being able to just plug my phone in and respond to messages via voice, use Google maps etc. reminded me how much I miss having it as an option. Started looking at what is available on aliexpress, but my concern is that without any real knowledge of anyone using one of those units, how reliable are they, I don't want to go spending $400+ on something that ends up being junk.

Here are a few I have come across...

With that one though, there is no split for early 2015 and late 2015. They have options for 2011 - 2014 and 2015 - 2017, as we all know, the 2015.5 is different, so I would assume a 2014 would work, but it's an expensive and possibly frustrating gamble if you have to return the unit.

This second one looks decent, but $720, is it worth the premium over the one above:

It specifically says it works with all factory functions though, including the back up cam.

Finally, this one is available but something about it looks off.

There are a ton of others on there as well, problem is knowing which are reliable and which are garbage.

Anyone installed one? How did it go? Which did you use?

It's all plug and play right? No wire stripping or tapping?
Correct, the only piece that I'd say is a little above plug and play is connecting the new circuit board to your existing display. But, even that doesn't require any wire stripping, just unplug one, plug in another, attach board with double sided tape.

When your get all the parts of to run into issues, just post here, lots of us have done it and can offer assistance if you run into questions.

Did a few thousands kilometers and Android Auto did not hang even once. I love the setup with AAwireless :giggle:

I tried to connect the aawireless module but I keep having issues. Connecting works but when I left the car for a while and come back the module has only a blinking blue light and the aa unit say connect phone, while the phone is saying android auto connected and a searching car message. Rebooting the aa module in het menu helps for the moment but after leaving the car for a while again the process starts over again, anyone an idea how to fix this?
After experimenting for a while I don't think it is the Aawireless module but the unit itself, when I connect the phone with a cable the connection is also very instable, it keeps reconnecting and also the power charging keeps reconnecting. Anyone has experience with this, via Bluetooth directly it works fine.
Did you go into the settings and disable connecting wirelessly? It should be set to USB / wired only, wondering if you still have it set to both if it is fighting trying to connect wired as well as wirelessly causing issues.

Different topic, that I feel like was brought up here, but does anyone have a solution for the phone trying to connect to the AA module after the car is off? I get home, turn the car off and for a solid 5 minutes my phone continues to connect to the AAWireless module, since it is still getting power from the main AA module. Wondering if I can do something with Tasker that says if my home wireless network is detected, to not connect to the AAWireless module.
I set it to wired only so that part should be oké.

About your issues, try to update the mcu to version 2.0.3, mine stops after opening the door.

Thanks, I'll look back through the thread for a link to version 2.0.3, I have not updated mine since they first added the climate control overlay.
I can update it a bit later, I havel 2.0.3,2.0.6 and 2.0.8, 2.0.3 works best in my opinion

Hi
Do you have a download link you could share for MCU 2.0.8.
Cheers
Here is a download link:

Anyone maybe have an idea left about how to fix the usb connectivity of the unit?

Does anyone have a current link for what everyone is using, the one in the OP seems to be dead. Also, does anyone have any thoughts on a full on replacement screen? The reviews for the "Seicane" one are pretty poor from what I can find, but there is a different one from a "Krando Tech" that is about 2x as expensive at 1200$, anyone try it out? I would like to have a bigger, more modern, screen but not a deal breaker if I can't.
Try this one - https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256...3437!sh&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa&_randl_shipto=US

If you are not sure, reach out to the seller at that link, they have been very helpful.

Not sure any of us installed the full screen unit, at least not with earlier cars. The only user I can think of who did install one is [email protected], search his posts (or PM him) and he can give you some info on those.

Perfect thank you, I see that it can come with a camera - is this required? I think I'd go to the trouble though the quality of the OE camera is ok but could be better.
Careful when ordering, the page is sometimes laid out weirdly, I don't know that it comes with a camera. If I click on the link it takes me directly to the audio filter, but you have to actually select the main module.

My unit is now finaly working stable via the usb cable, however I still don't get the AA wireless module to work. It is trying to start Android auto but it fails, the phone says connect and searching for car. De AAwireless module is blinking blue, I have this issue on multiple devices (Galaxy S22 + A53). I tried the USB default mode, MTP force start and MTP retry but unfortunately they all don't work. Has anyone experienced this issue in combination with the kremersino unit?

Have you tried to factory reset AAwireless via its app? Have you tried tips from Troubleshooting?
Well here's a new issue that popped up today. Has anyone gotten on the lower right hand corner "Demo Software?" It wouldn't go away until I shut the car down and power cycled the car.

I have installed the unit last week and also have this ongoing 'demo software' message. Rest of the unit seems to be working fine though. Did you (or anyone) figured out how to solve this? Software update didn't do any changes regarding the error message :(
Thank you

Hi, yes, basically I tried almost everything:
Reset of the aa unit
various reset of the wirelessAA module (via app and button on the device)
clear all network connection in the phone
factory reset of the phone
tried multiple phones
tried multiple cabled
made a new cable for the unit.

I'm now getting a new temporarily new kremersino unit to see if that fixes the issue. Hopefully it will help.

How about Factory reset of a kremiersino unit? Have you tried different software? I am using 2.0.6 and it works fine.
