I was fairly active back when I first bought my car but with Winter here in Michigan I often lose touch with my car. But this morning I took my car in for Volvo's 127,500 mile checkup and thought I'd let everyone know the car is still going strong at 130,000+, although it's become quite uncomfortable for my 6'4" frame to drive in 500 miles a week. Other minor issues include poor weatherstripping that causes some wind noise and a squeaky passenger door.
I wanted to take this opportunity to ask another question too that I couldn't exactly find an answer to through searching here on the forum. I have 18" wheels I'd like to put on again (each summer) but they often wear out on the inside because of, I'm assuming, the fact that my car is lowered a little over an inch. Is this the case? Would I be better off with putting the stock springs back in?
It looks like things are very active here still which is awesome

Is it mainly the rears that are wearing? If so, you should get your rear camber adjusted (too much negative camber causes the inner wear on our rears). A few places sell adjustable rear camber arms for our cars since the stock ones are not adjustable. SPC 67420 is the part you're looking for. Fits our S40s, Mazda 3s, and Ford Focuses (Foci?). You should be able to find the parts for ~$160-180 for the pair.

Yours would be the highest mileage S40 ive seen and have been curious how they hold up with that kinda mileage. For door grab some silicone grease and lube up the door limiter, that has fixed numerous door squeeks ive had.
Also like mentioned if your doing a lot of long distance driving it would probably be best to have your alignment checked and then possibly looking into adjustable rear arms.

I just got a follow-up call from the dealership - apparently front rim has been bent, pretty badly, for quite some time now! Oops.

The Volution X are one of my favorite wheels for our car, I am hoping the wheel that is bent is your winter wheel...if you ever get tired of the Volutions let me know, I'd be happy to take them off your hands!

130K miles!! , but true.. some adj. rear camber arms WILL help. mines lowered 1.3" and used to go through tires big time! now while not perfect... I'm getting A LOT more miles out of them with those arms. I got mine at vivaperformance.com for like $160ish

Luckily it's not the case that one of the HEICO wheels were bent But let's say I put them back on and all 4 wheels have camber issues - would the cheapest fix be to simply put the stock springs back in? Is it the lowering springs that are causing my issues right now with larger wheels?

You have two choices:
1. Buy Camber rear adjustments
2. Put the stock springs back on
Sucks that when you lower the car it chews the inner tires more.

I remember a tire that's "specially made" for lowered cars. I believe it was something like a Nitto something whatever. Saw it in Super Street. wonder if this would also help? .... but yeah, those rear camber arm things DO help! get those suckers! even if you're only 30mm lowered

I'm going to have a friend install these rear control arms but he posed an interesting question... are the fronts adjustable from the factory? I don't remember.

Re: (V50_T5)

I had a tire blowout last fall because of a sidewall failure on the back driver's side tire. Looked at the camber and this was definitely the cause. I plan on picking up a camber kit in the next couple of weeks.

Re: (makonyy15)

I need a camber kit too...I think most of us on here could benefit from them. Anyone on here want to get some sort of group buy deal with Viva? We could save some dough and all of us can get them before our tires get screwed more.

Re: An update on my car (nme95k)

I'm normally 100% into GP thing (saved 30% on my Bell Intercooler) however, as a friend, my advise, I wouldn't put say 3-6 months off on a chance of getting this for 10-25 % cheaper! I paid like $150ish for this and it almost doubled the treadlife. just MHO
