I just had the Ferrita 3" down pipe installed on the XC.
The XC only has ITG and RICA chip for performance upgrade so far.
However, after taking off the stock down pipe it looks like I may need new bigger injectors to help out with the lean running engine.
The stock ones are 310cc brown/orange injectors, should I go with 395cc or 465cc?
I don't want to sacrifice the good gas mileage I'm getting now too much, but at the same time I dont' want to blow up my engine.
I'm all ears to you experts.
Here are the photos, my stock one on the right and stock S60R on the left for comparison.

And a solo close up of my stock down pipe

I think the S60R downpipe is looking way to rich... no?
Keep us posted abouth that 19T

Re: Am I running too lean? (BenES)

First let me say that I'm a newbie when it comes to modding , but I think the S60R DP is normal, since 6 other DP from S60R, V70R, S60 T5 all have the same black deposit/look. Mine is the only white one.
Well, I had the S60R 465cc injectors put on last night; out of fear that my engine will suffer damage.
But the improvement over acceleration is simply amazing! Much smoother, linear boost and more power at low end/off the line.
And the thing I do not understand is now I'm getting about 9L/100km around city, vs before about 11L/100km? I've always thought that mods that improves performance will sacrifice fuel consumption?
But hey, I'm not comlaining.

I am also a newbie when it comes to modding...
What other mods to you have to do (on your ECU?) to make use of the larger injectors. Also how does Volvo calculates the fuel consumption, is it based on a separate flow meter, or based on the pulses sent to the injectors? If I understand correctly, larger injectors has lower duty cycle (smaller pulses), so this may explain the lower fuel consumption. You should check how many km per tank you get now.

Re: Am I running too lean? (024tnfi)

Hi 024tnfi,
I have just ordered green injectors too. (Have blue 395cc ones now)
Did you do anything else than just replacing these ?
I understand green are "high impedance" - but not sure if blue ones are also high impedance.

Re: Am I running too lean? (phpedersen)

Just did some checking up on this. Seems all later V70/S60 are using high resistance injectors - so no problem.
However I dont think you should belive much in your computers milage calculations anymore.
All the best
Peter, Copenhagen

Re: Am I running too lean? (phpedersen)

Hi Peter,
Can you tell me a bit more on your experience/review after the 465cc installed?
I'm still getting the same gas mileage, but performance is not as good as before, now it feels like a stock XC70.
I think I will have to get it RICA tuned for optimum performance.

Re: Am I running too lean? (024tnfi)

Sure I will keep you posted here in this thread.
I guess you are aware that because of the adaptive system (in the ECU) , the car will change in response the first 100-200km everytime you make a modification. Could be that you are now just back to where you started.
From what I read in many postings now - injectors are not "limiting components" when the only mods are ECU and downpipe/exhaust upgrades.
