All sounds stopped working?

While stopped at a light with my blinker on today I noticed there was no clicking sound, weird. Then I asked Google for directions, although it processed my request, it didn’t respond. Then I tried playing music, nothing.

I realized no sound is coming through the speakers at all for any feature requiring audio. Had to hold the center button beneath the display mid-drive to reboot the system at which point all sound returned.

Anyone else experience something like this? Hoping it’s a small bug and not something potentially more serious.

I’ve had the exact same issue with our 2023 XC90. Hard reboot fixed it. Other software issues have been the glove box will not open with the electronic button, multiple heating/AC issues requiring reboots, GPS having a huge block of missing data, also fixed with a reboot. So far my 2020 V60 is still running perfectly without ever requiring a reboot. I’m not sure progress is worth the problems I’ve had.

I had the same sound issue on 2023 xc90. First time no sound (fixed by rebooting the central display) and later very loud blinker sound (again fixed by reboot). The sound-related issues were present in 2.6 software version but appeared about 4 months after purchase. Now with v2.10 the sound issues did not happen (yet) but sometimes after starting the car you cannot switch radio stations with the steering wheel controls - you have to use access the radio station list and switch station once using the central display. Also sometimes radio does not play anything and the central console button (very original user interface design choice.. like yeah we need the play button not a climate controls) does not work and again - you have to tap “play” icon on the central display. There are other minor bugs too - if you rewind a track to the beginning using left arrow of the steering column the progress bar of the multimedia player keeps moving. I hope Volvo does not make any avionics.

I had this happen once a few months ago in my 2022 xc60 T8. In addition to the symptoms you list, none of the parking warning beeps were sounding. I was headed to an appointment and had no time to diagnose. After my appointment (~1 hour), everything was working. I told my dealer service about it at my next service and they said they saw no "stored codes" and shrugged.

2020 xc90 ... since the sw update as part of scheduled maintenance last December it happened to me a few times. So far, finger crossed, this seems to be pretty much the only glitch I've had on this car.

This has happened to me half a dozen times since I bought my XC90 B6 mild hybrid last October. I have done hard resets every time I have updated the software every time it alerts me and I have taken my car to get serviced multiple times. Each time I’m told they don’t see anything wrong and there’s nothing they can do. I find it insanely frustrating that this is happening constantly for the large amount of money I spent on this car.

I came up with the same thing two times with my 2023 XC90. The first one was in around July 2023 the later one was around in Nov 2023. It looks like a software glitch. Rebooting worked or at your next start it is fixed after a couple of hours. But it is uncomfortable.

Same here, Xc90 T8, 2022. Especially when driving >1h issue occur. Volume control not working, home button not working, steering wheel controls not working.

One of the first indicators is often the missing sound of the blinkers.

Same happend to our Xc40, T4, 2022.

System reset and software update at Volvo workshop did not help.

Pretty frustrating, as the workshop also never heard of the issue but all of you did and other Volvo friends here, too.

xc90ger, I always laugh when my service manager always acts completely surprised and mystified when presented with an issue that clearly has existed for multiple model years, across Volvo models, and across the globe.

Got that issue some time on my 2019 model. Was told by the dealer that it is a know issue: the infontainment system crash.
Since we cannot reset by holding the center button, all we have to do is to stop the engine and lock the car. For experience, time to "autreset" Is random: last time it happen, leaving the car closed 3hours didn't fix it.

Next time, disconnect the battery. I believe that should do it. Force a reset, I mean.

press the home button (the rectangular button below the central console screen) for thirty seconds, until the screen goes black, then it goes on again, there is a “loading” horizontal bar, and tah dah, all sounds (radio, blinkers, parking assistant) were working again 😌 It seems to be a never-ending issue on Volvo models across years, seems that software engineers are not the brightest ones they could find available…

my 2024 XC60 did the same thing to me this week, 9 months after my initial purchase. it happened a few times this week, I wonder if it related to software upgrade? I had no issues after purchase, then suddenly it constantly happened. I paid a premium price for this brand new car, this is quite un-acceptable, disappointed!

Just adding to this thread. This has occurred in our 2023 three times in the past week now. Each time a hard reset corrected it. It happened today on the way home from work. What’s crazy is this reset turns off the AC system. That was a fun 20-30 seconds in 111 degree heat 🙄. I’m taking it in tomorrow for the factory included 10k service. Will ask the dealer about it and see if they’re willing to update the software to 3.1.2. They didn’t update it the last time they had the car for electrical gremlins, even after I asked. With no explanation.

Hello Everyone Just purchased a 2023 xc90 on 29/06/24 and everything fine. Took it my local dealership for first service on 08/07/24 and low and behold same sound issues as you guys now the latest software has been installed. Rebooted at home 3 times by holding in the home button in the last week so shall start ringing Volvo on call every time it happens in future until they get it rectified once and for all.
