Sven (affectionately named by my wife) needed a good wash and detail...
Exterior: Wash/dry, coat of Meguiars, and lastly a nice tire foam.
Interior: Armor all on the plastics, Lexol (conditioner) on the leather, vacuumed the carpets, washed the rubber mats, and Windex on the windows.
I almost forgot! Does anyone else experience a type of spring noise coming from the front end on startup? Its not the suspension clunk and the dealer told me it was the subframe bushings (supposedly fixed), but the problem is still happening Also, at the same time the noise happens....you can feel it through the gas and brake pedal (hard to describe, but its almost like a short vibration) Thanks!
The reward for hard work.....

Modified by mumpsdba at 5:04 PM 8-11-2009

Modified by mumpsdba at 5:08 PM 8-11-2009

Re: All clean! (mumpsdba)

Nice work!!! I feel what I think you are describing. I am pretty sure it is the Haldex pre-charging and the anti-lock brakes charging. Last for just a split second when first starting. I am so used to it that I do not even notice it unless I am looking for it.

Sounds and feels like a spring going "BOING". The key thing to note is that it happens every time right after startup, so I agree that it is probably a system like the ABS doing a self-check. And it ain't no subframe bushings! I just wish Volvo could have worked on quieting this sound a bit. It always reminds me of sitting on a cheap worn-out sofa, and hearing a spring pop. Would be humorous if it wasn't a $49,000 automobile we're talking about.

Re: All clean! (MAC1LSR)

It is the ABS module self test. Happens every day when you crank the car and pass 10 MPH or so, and from the bottom of the car, you get a metallic clunk pop and a pulsation in the pedals. No problemo.

Re: (zamo)

Thank you guys for all the compliments and enlightening me on the ABS check spring noise. It is very noticable and do think Volvo has some fine tuning on making things like that less obvious! My son actually took the pictures, so I'll let him know that you guys really liked them (he is a HUGE volvo fanatic too).

I have grown accustomed to it, and when in my dad's or friend's car, I feel that something is wrong when I don't get the traditional *thump* when we start moving.

Re: (MAC1LSR)

Probably referring to the M66 (Is that what it is?) - the six speed manual

Re: (vivek9856)

I figured that, but I just wanted to emphasize that current US-spec S80s have a 6-spd automatic. I'm not sure what comes standard in other countries. Anybody know?

Re: (MAC1LSR)

You know what I don't get? How cars like the Lexus LS have soo many gears (How many does it have now - 8?)
I know that it would make the ride more comfortable - with all that torque of the V8, you could rev to a lower RPM and then upshift, having much less shift shock compared to a transmission with fewer gears. But wouldn't that seriously hamper the performance (eg 0 to 60 times) because of the power loss during all those shifts?
I think the S80 only comes in the 6 speed geartronic transmission worldwide - however - someone did show the pre-production test S80 being outfitted with a 6 speed manual.
Oh - Mumps - remove that dealer license cover plate from your car! It looks bad and just gives the dealership free advertising! If you must have a license cover, get a plain Volvo or Sweedspeed cover.

The license plate frame "appeared" when my wife picked it up from Stillman from service.
