Once again here we go, I am looking for ideas on getting rid of the 4C suspension in my R!
Reason being I just sunk a $hit load of money into it and less than 3 months later I am having problems with it again.
I know the basics like if I change it to a sport tuned suspension I will have the chassis settings message,
is there a way to get rid of that message and the 4C at the same time, without gettig rid of my R for you smart asses who are thinking of saying something sarcastic. Maybe put in a couple of jumpers somewhere or
join some wires together or pull a few fuses? without affecting other electrical items?
Or we can band together and file a class action suit against Volvo for selling us this crap!
I am willing to do it to my car and try anything that seems sensible as a "guinea car"
There are more than enough intelligent R minds on here to come up with a plan.

You've got those extra shocks - let's take one apart and try hooking up just the wire w/o a shock and see what happens?
...or go buy a Camry

When can we do this Adam? And don't forget most wires are off the shocks I have , remember the issue I had before. And a Camry thats a joke right!
Oh wait scratch I saved the wires/ connectors.
Thinking of perhaps plugging in wire and twisting together?
Also that takes care of shocks what about accelorometers?

The shocks are all you have to worry about. If they can be 'tricked' like that, voila!
So my ? is - those w/ 'leaking' shocks/struts, did you get a message from it?

what I saw there was only two wires to the shock itself .
Maybe leave the controll unit tucked someplace and buy Konis for your car with a set of Eibach lowering springs .

Been running with the 4C fused pulled for about a month now. I put it back for a drive, and I can't stand it anymore. No 4C is what I'm going to do from this point on. I'm considering S60 AWD shocks as a replacement. I can live with the error message.
Where did you find the signal specs? If its only looking for a current draw thats easy enough to get around.

Just a note that my front PS strut is leaking an no suspension error message yet. The bummer is that this shock was replaced about two years ago when there was a 4C error msg.

Coil over MOD on this car would be the MOD of the Century. Maybe IPD ought to get involved?

Better yet, if someone can retrofit the Bose modules...
http://www.bose.com/images/lea...r.jpg
and the software, predictive roadsurface reading hardware in the winglets...
if ipd can tune 4C...

The only MAJOR barrier is that no one (Volvo or TME) came up with software to remove the error messages.
We already have some decent springs and front shocks available.
Someone has to come up with a rear shock (OK a proper set of shocks to match all the aftermarket springs out there.
You can disconnect the system and it's not all that bad to drive that way but the soft 4C spring is obvious.

The major worry is what happens then to the other systems that may (or may not) be relying on this information.
DSTC in particular, but BCM (brake distribution), Haldex (power split) and/or ECU (power generation/traction control?) could be compromised. Without being Volvo we'll never know the extent of the consequences of lobotomizing 4C.
I still say that the best solution is to find someone who knows how to modify systems in this car and RE-write a SUM update specific to STIFFER aftermarket springs.
For the $ that you'll all spend on aftermarket coilovers, you'll probably be better off pooling your resources

I think whatever they may have used is too slow.
I haven't noticed any complications other than the error light, DSTC still seems to be working. With DSTC off (manually set), I can squeal my tires through almost all of second gear. With the 4C fuse pulled, I can only get a quick chirp when I shift into second.

Just pull the shocks and replace them with a set of coilovers. The most difficult part of the equation is finding a fix for the warning light. If I hated the 4C enough to get rid of it, I'd probably replace the shocks and deal with the light until I/people came up with an elegant solution. A false warning light that you know is false may be an annoyance but if you HATE the 4C that much it might be the less of the evils.
Just my $.02,
-Eric

I think whatever they may have used is too slow.

It is widely believed that 4C runs at 500Hz. This is very slow in electrical terms, but "decent" for mechanical systems. I think the 500Hz refresh rate is not the issue, rather the inability of the computer to process all the data and produce a sensible reaction in that timeframe
1/500= 2 miliseconds = 2000 cycles @ 1Mhz,
(1Mhz assumed give or take 10X)
This is minuscule in terms of processing power. These are very simple processors (it takes them several cycles to complete each operation). Hence the "trivial" algorithms run in there, and the sluggish response time.
If you were to throw a 1GHz processor in there, then each of the 356 modules in the car would cost as much as a laptop, which is also nonsense
(at least outside of racing). This is part of the reason why a F1 steering wheel costs something like 30kusd
/rant
watch Clarkson's review around 1:55 and tell me how all that is going to work once you take the shocks out
If you plan on never driving like that, you should have gotten a T5 (right crimnlmnded? )
If you consider yourself an uberdriver, and don't need no stinkin computers, may as well get rid of all that pesky ABS hardware

EDIT Listening to Clarkson, he says 5/100ths of a second, which is 50 ms. If we were to believe him (?), that gives the tiny processor a little more room to breathe, still nowhere near enough
