Well, in Dearborn MI I would definitely invest in some winter wheels and snow tires. The Tethys wouldn't be bad, but the tires would be more expensive in such a low profile.
Back to what you are looking for, check Tire Rack http://www.tirerack.com as they're one of the larger aftermarket wheel companies in the US. They probably have a good selection for you.
Also, you probably receive the Volvo magazine that is sent to all new Volvo buyers. Volvo is offering a $200 rebate on accessory alloy wheels in the current issue. I think they make 2 different 18" styles that are factory wheels.
Last, if you want the shiny look, consider machined or polished wheels. The chroming process makes wheels brittle and more likely to crack. With 18" wheels and being in MI, I wouldn't by liking those odds.

Chrome is pretty fugly, especially on a volvo. If you want 18's, ronal wheels has a beautiful 2 piece wheel named the LX. If I had the funds right now I would pick up a set. I think the harshness would depend on the tires you decide to slap on. One thing for sure is that you will have to drive very carefully. A lot of my friend with 18's have severely dented their rims while hitting those pesky potholes.
Good luck!

nice and clean
[This message has been edited by volvos70turbo (edited 04-17-2002).]

18' chromes on a volvo fugly.. ya dont know wucha talken bout... My 18 inch chromes look illy on my volvo.. I will post pics as soon as my bud gets his digital camera back... Umm tire wise im not sure, i am running nitto 225/40ZR/18 on mine, but again this is southern cali were it doesnt drop below 50F. The tires should only last around 20000 miles especially the way i drive but the performance that the low pro tires gives is amazing. The widest that you can go would prob be 18'x 8 or 18 x 7.5.. There were some TSW 19'x8 rimes that looked great and would fit on my car without body work. Um personally the selection on tire rack is rather limited.. Even though this is a california company im sure you can prob get the rims shipped to you... Try www.wheelwarehouse.com Give it a look... If you do find any thing that you like, post a message and I will put you in touch with my guy and get you a good deal...
~Spencer~

Chrome is nasty...hey, that's just my opinion. What type of rims do you have? Haven't seen a Volvo look nice with chrome rims yet....my opinion stands until I see one.
