Hey everybody,

Over the past few weeks, I have been testing out an Exhaust System EuroCompulsion/Vaitrix USA plans to soon offer here in the states. The exhaust is stainless steal and is made in Germany by Bastuck. The version I have been beta-testing is very similar to the Heico exhaust kit, as it is a full cat-back exhaust with an electronically controlled flap for "quiet" and "loud" modes. The exhaust is also automatically adaptive, so even when in quiet mode, the flap opens for full performance under full-throttle accelerations.

The exhaust is extremely quiet when the flap is closed, with basically zero resonance and droning. Also no harsh vibrations. Install was very simple and straightforward, though the electronically controlled flap version does come with a computer module and interior button which needs to be connected to various wires throughout the vehicle and routed from the trunk to behind the steering wheel. Not very hard, but a bit more work than plug and play.

So far, I have been extremely satisfied with the exhaust. Sounds awesome in both modes, very aggressive with the flap open. Under hard accel, there are some nice pops and burbles when shifting. I am also pretty impressed with the sound tuning of the system considering these 4-cylinders don't make the best sounds stock.

The exhaust should fit all SPA sedans and wagons, not sure if it will be/is compatible with the XC90's though. The kit comes with a 90-series and 60-series length mid-center pipe which allows it to adapt to either model-line. Quality seems top-notch.

I can't speak to pricing, nor when exactly the exhaust will be officially available for order, but I would definitely say the purchase is a no-brainer if you want a better sounding, better performing car. I have noticed a bit more power and responsiveness which I would attribute to a lot less back pressure and better flow thanks to (I believe) the 3" diameter piping.

I have linked some exhaust clips below, and hope to get some better quality recordings posted soon:

Thanks to the awesome team over at EuroCompulsion/Vaitrix USA for the opportunity to test out this exhaust before release, and for being one of the very few tuners finally creating some pretty great aftermarket products for US-based SPA and CMA Volvo owners/enthusiasts.

thanks for the post and the video the systems sounds awesome.

I'm looking for something with the ability to adjust the noise just like this or the Heico system offers.

Keep us posted if the product will be (or when) is available

Very nice! Sounds good. Will the kit also be available to the Netherlands? Is the car lowered, seems lower than a standard R design?

And hopefully no heico prices for this kit :)

Availability location-wise, I can't really speak to so I am not sure but I don't see why not.

Car is not lowered, but I do have the Sport-chassis option so it's a bit lower than some R-Designs (USA spec models come standard with the "dynamic" suspension). I do have 90-series R-Design rims on 255/35/20 tires and spacers though, so the car has a much more aggressive stance and definitely looks lower being that the rim/tire/spacer combo fills the wheel-wells nicely.

Though I wish mine was lowered, I can promise you its stock height. Mine actually sits quite a bit higher off the ground with the rim/tire setup I have than it does with the original 19" rims.

Might just look lower in the video because of the angle though.

The electronically controlled flap version does come with a computer module and interior button which needs to be connected to various wires throughout the vehicle and routed from the trunk to behind the steering wheel. Not very hard, but a bit more work than plug and play.
By default, they should integrate with the existing "drive mode" controller (no wiring to the cabin). The additional button should be optional.

From what I have noticed, the system when wired to the car actually acts the same as how the original flap operated. Under heavy acceleration, the flap opens regardless of the mode. The button, though not needed, is optional and can be used to force-open the flap regardless of drive mode. I chose to not install the interior button and instead use the wireless remote.

@MJEWETT - Thank you for the post. Any ideas how the system compares to the Ferrita Cat-Back which is available on Viva Performance? And is the system installed on your Vehicle, a rebadged Bastuck system or has Vaitrix put their own spin on the system?

I am honestly not sure whether they are going to be selling the kit as a vendor, or if it was revised specific for them.

Regarding the Ferrita kit, I don't have any experience with it so I don't know how it compares, though it seems from the description that the Ferrita is only available for 90-series models, and requires modification/cutting of the existing oem system which negates the opportunity to return the car to stock whenever needed. I'm happy with this kit as it can slide under the radar sound/volume wise in quiet-mode as well as looks wise for service visits being that it uses the original exhaust tips, and I can return the car fully to stock easily and cheaply when I happen to trade it in on something else. Of course, whenever someone needs to get under the car, they are going to probably notice its an aftermarket exhaust, but the longer I can go without it being known, the better.

Wow, sounds nice! Thanks for sharing. Hopefully it won't be ridiculously expensive, something I will strongly consider! I wonder how long before it's out?

Also, what size spacers do you have? I have a T6 R Design with the Sport Chassis & 19" wheels. No intention on going larger. I survived 3 years with 20" wheels on my recently returned M3, but I'll sacrifice appearance, some handling and ride comfort and stick with the 19's. I'm a little bummed that finding lowering springs to drop the car a touch lower means the only option is a coil over, am leaning towards just leaving it alone at this point. Any spring set won't make a meaningful difference to consider, but make claims to having far superior handling compared to the stock/sport chassis setup...I was hoping to get that tiny bit more of a drop (another .50"-.75"), but don't think it's worth going with coil over for that. Should I look at the 10 or 15mm spacers if I'll most likely keep the sport chassis suspension as is?

I did 10mm front, 15mm rear to give it a bit more initial turn-in bias, and I definitely think the car handles a bit better as well. Some might say with a front-drive bias car like this, understeer will probably increase, but with my rims and tires, I haven't noticed an issue. If you do, you can always put them on the opposite way; 15mm front, 10mm rear. Won't look noticeably different in my opinion, and its the same way Audi specs the RS3 (Wider tires in front).

There are few options if you don't want the electronic flap. also any muffler shop can get one made if all you want is noise all the time.

Ahh, I am the guy who replied to your video on YouTube before I found your thread here. Too bad this isn’t available yet. This is probably the best sounding system on the SPA cars right now.

Sounds great, much better than vids of Heico, ERST, Ferrita I can find online. Hope this will be on sales soon, perhaps the vendor can introduce a groupbuy discount for the forum members.

Please let us know if and when this will be available.

If anyone is seriously interested in mine, I’d offer to sell it as I no longer have the vehicle. It would also fit the 90-series cars.

I’d prefer to have someone pick it up if possible as it would be a nightmare to try and ship.
