So i was thinking of getting an Evolve exhaust but felt that around $1000 is a little too much. So I was wondering how the car would sound if i remove the cat and keep stock exhaust or change to bigger piping?
Or maybe just getting a muffler?
has anyone tried this?

Re: Affordable Sound? (zubilius)

A lot of people have replaced their stock muffler with a magnaflow exhaust and done custom tips. It sounds pretty good. Look up S40 exhaust on youtube and you can find a lot of clips. I have the Heico exhaust and love the sound, but retail is expensive... Good luck!

this should point you in the right direction... if you do an archived search, you'll find all the info you need.

Re:

Cat usually mellows out the tone a bit, if your looking for something super aggressive then you may wanna remove it. Otherwise i kinda prefer the quiet around town exhausts and something mean WOT.

Re: Re: (ForceFed Motorsports)

I've got the Jetex system (same as the EST, Ferrita, etc....) With the cat its nice and mellow, more of a deep, bassy burble. Without a cat, its louder, but not quite as bassy, there's more of a rasp to it.

Honestly for turbo application get the exhaust gases out as easily and fast as possible. Forced induction like turbo is fully reliant on the ability for it to spin as fast as possibly, any restriction like back pressure can potentially hinder the ability to make peak power.
I personally recommend 3" for ALL turbo applications. Doesnt hurt anything and will give you the most room for future performance upgrades.

I am sure for the NA 2.4i car it wouldn't matter too much. I heard the exhaust shop saying you should keep back pressure or else you will lose power at lower speeds such as city driving. What you guys think?
