I'm coming from volkswagen as well as vwvortex.com. I need a car that is safe and reliable as well as one that has good styling. How much do you guys really like your cars? Is there anything to look out for? How "mod friendly" are they? How much power can be added to the 1.9turbo? Thanks for any advice you can give.

Re: Advice on S40's (Need4Swede)

Not gonna lie to you, but no Volvo will have as many aftermarket parts as any VW. The S40 is going to be a very reliable car alright, and few aftermarket bodykit you can slap on there. The newest limited edition model has different headlamp, and all the new ones have color matched side moldings. Looks pretty good!
As for mod-friendly on the go fast aspect, you might want to talk to Carlos about it. Not sure how strong these engines are, I know the T5 models will still crap out on you after certain limit. But you have to ask yourself...HOW FAST you want to go?

Thanks! What about chips? My bf will be driving it too, and since he's used to the vr6 he wants some power. I think the 1.9t has about 160 hp, correct. What would give the car some real boost?

Re: Advice on S40's (Need4Swede)

Check out IPd in Portland for stuff for the S40. I did the ECU upgrade to my C70 which added significant performance to my car.
http://www.ipdusa.com/
They are very easy to do biz with and will answer any question(s) that you may have.
Good Luck.
