Advice needed: JRL + STOCK OR JRL + JETEX

Hi guys,
I need your advice on a possible exhaust upgrade.
Currently running a 2003 S60R manual with BSR CHIP, BMC AIR FILTER, AND JRL EXHAUST MOD. All happy with current setup but I would love some more noise
After reading several exhaust mods on the forum, I think I will go for the JETEX/BSR sports exhausts, which is not that expensive and which gets good comments on the forum.
MY question, if I go for the JETEX exhaust (which I assume is identical to the BSR one-looks the same), I also want to do the JRL mod on the new exhaust as otherwise it will still be a bit too quiet for my taste.
Is there a lot of difference in sound between stock exhaust with JRL mod (current setup) and JETEX with JRL mod. I just want to be sure that the money I spend on the JETEX is woth it
The stock with JRL mod sounds much nicer, BUT does same apply for JRL mod on JETEX ?
I really love the sound of the evolve though the wife will never accept this symphony
I dont like resonance in the car on highways eg that is why I would opt for JETEX possibly with JRL MOD. I can buy the exhaust fairly cheap online so that I would also need to find decent shop who can do the fitting and cutout out center resonator.
Again is it worth it to change the stock for the JETEX one.
Thanks for your advice :

Re: Advice needed (JRL)

I am OK with louder than stock with JRL mod.
My car sounds OK now but just wanted to know difference with Jetex with JRL mod.
I am not looking for ricey eg EVOLVE, SVENSKE....way too much drone...
Just looking for best exhaust setup to compliment the beautiful 5cyl symphony.
Trying to get back the sound from my 850 GLT 2.5 20V Man that car sounded awesome, although not as powerful, beautiful sound !!!

greetz

It actually takes some effort to make these cars sound terrible. Really it comes down to what kind of sound you are willing to except in the cabin...

Re: Advice needed (GiRaff3)

You want loud, I'd say go with a custom 3" all the way back. It's loud, but not nearly as loud as I thought it would be.
Want noisey? Put a cut-out before the cat. THATS LOUD.
Rue

Re: Advice needed (Rues R)

I am look for loud though refined
Big questions remains ...stock exhaust with JRL mod do you consider this as LOUD ?
Will aftermarket exhaust (BSR, JETEX) with JRL mod be louder ? Will JRL mod on aftermarket exhaust ruin the sound....so better stick to full aftermarket setup without JRL mod.
Those are the questions I hope you guys can give some advice on...
Maybe people who are running aftermarket exhaust with JRL mod...
I have a good custom exhaust shop not far from where I live. I can go and ask price for 3'' all the way back BUT with center resonator and muffler. Only thing is that I think this would sound wayyyy too loud and ricey....and especially the DRONING inside the car.
If I would go 3'' will I have for sure droning inside the cabin ?
OR I go for JETEX incl JRL mod -I guess this in 2.2''
OR I go for CUSTOM 3'' incl resonator and muffler

I have a 3" downpipe and full exhaust. i have a dynomax bullit where the solencer goes and an 18" Magnaflow in the back with a 4" tip. There is no drone on the freeway, at idle is relatively quiet but when you rev it barks. sounds very nice. the magnaflow is great.

Re: (slick50)

Hi Guys,
we to muffler chop and checked out the 3'' custom option, Unfortunately living in EUROPE we are tied to TUV restrictions so custom option will not be possible.
Now my DILEMMA: shall I stay with my current stock exhaust with JRL mod
OR
Should I go and order the BSR/JETEX exhaust including the JRL mod
Question: Is replacing stock exhaust for JETEX one worth the MONEY ???
People who have done JRL mod on aftermarket exhaust, youre commentary is more then welcome ))
greetz Joey
PS I am looking for more sound (stock with JRL mod still pretty quiet)

Joey, just to add my thoughts. I'm not sure about the JRL mod with Jetex/BSR/Ferrita exhaust but I have the JRL mod with Heico exhaust and its only louder when you really step on the gas. Oh I have stock DP too ( I assume you do to?)

Re: (juve021)

Thanks mate,
as for Heico I know they dont sound much different from stock so JRL mod would help there.
As for JETEX apparently their sports exhausts sounds louder than stock.
Just dont know if their is a big difference between stock JRL and afermarket JRL.
If the difference is not really huge, I would probably stay with my STOCK and dont spend the extra bucks on new exhaust.
greetz
Joey

Jim, I would revise your statement....
Like I said, stock DP with your mod and Heico exhaust does not produce a BIG DIFFERENCE IMO
Again, it might with other AF exhausts....not Heico tho!

Re: (juve021)

Ok fair enough.
I've only heard a TME with the resonator removed and it was pretty darn loud IMO and certainly loud enough for most people and at IDLE, when the gas was blipped, pretty raspy!

How about getting a downpipe? That makes the exhaust a bit louder, doesn't it? Plus you'll actually get a performance gain from it, instead of just noise.

Agree, the IPD down pipe and Evolve advanced exhaust causes mothers to pull their children off the streets...

Re: (Johnr352)

JRL, I know you are the expert when it comes down to fine tuning the sound on our R. After the JRL mod I was very happy with the sound.
As I understand, doing JRL mod on JETEX will be loud, but I suppose not as loud as EVOLVE, ...etc lol so should be OK
Downpipe I cannot change as my car is BSR chipped and as far as I know they dont have a compatibe downpipe available with this tune. Also donwpipe should be lot more expensive and I am pretty sure you cannot pass technical inspection when touching the downpipe.
Europe is pretty restricted when it comes to changing exhausts, ...etc
So far I think BSR/JETEX is cheapest option, around 600 USD.
More comments from R drivers with aftermarket exhaust are welcome....
Thanks
Greetz
JOEY

Re: (jsalien24)

Aloha to JRL,
I read somewhere on the forum that you preferred jetex without the JRL mod above JETEX with the JRL mod.
Grateful if you could explain bit more on your experience.
Also saw a guy driving EST catback with JRL mod.
So there should be some R drivers who have done aftermarket + JRL.
Let me know your thoughts guys,
greetz Joey

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzX7DPJafR8
If this is the sound you want then JRL mod any of the following exhaust:
1. BSR
2. EST
3. Jetex
4. Ferrita
(Note): A highflow downpipe will change sound characteristics from a stock DP.
A modified JRL mod would be cutting out the large first resonator / muffler and replacing with a vibrant resonator either 1 12" , 1 18" , or 2 12" (24") depending on the sound you are going for!
Note: This video is also done without a load produced by the engine... As it is just free reving... I would imagine the exhuast note would be amazing and loud but probably a little much unless you are 16 and want every cop within a 1 mile radius to know you just dropped the hammer.

Re: (kmg_S60R)

Thanks mate,
this sounds pretty nice.
BUT stock+JRL mod sounds pretty nice too. I think that just adding aftermarket exhaust will not sound louder than my current stock setup.
So I would have to do JRL mod on new JETEX exhaust to get a louder noise I assume.
Though some people on forum said it sounded better without JRL mod.
greetz
