Recently, we were at our local dealership and after deciding on the color and options, the sales representative found the car we wanted at a dealership outside the immediate area. We were told that the XC60 was available and could be here in a week and a half, and were then informed that we would have to incur the cost of the shipment.

I'd like to know if it’s customary for the dealer to charge the buyer for the cost of the transport?
Has anyone out there run into this situation?

Depends on how far out the area, but yeah, if you want an oddball vehicle and want it now instead of waiting for a special order, you'll have to eat the cost of the DX.

It is a cost that has to be paid by someone. Did you try negotiating it a bit? Maybe split the cost with them? Worth asking.

Keep in mind, you are requesting a car that has already arrived at another dealership. The destination charge got it there. If you were requesting a car that was slotted for another store, it can be diverted and no additional transportation costs are incurred.

Re: Additional Cost for Shipping (WA V50 T5)

Yeah, we got into a bit of a barter session and thought that I was in a Bazaar in another part of the world, but I think that we've come to some understanding and believe that I'm getting a couple of extras and that would be a split of sorts...

Who are you dealing with? Danny Kreps or Yousef Alhooie?

Depending on how far away it is (or was) you could make a fun road trip out of it.

Re: Additional Cost for Shipping (sergjut14)

In today's car market the dealer should be glad to pay the charge and throw in a bag of chips. Seriously, This is exactly what happened to me last August and the dealer did not even suggest that I pay 1 cent for this transport.

That's why I buy from DARCARS (I get my cars at absolute cost, sometimes less than absolute cost) and service at Don Beyer.
