I’ve had the pilot assist cancel itself for no reason too. Not sure. I need a software update though.

 

Mine, too, has been self-deactivating saying "user requested cancel" or something similar. I did not press any pedal, button, or wheel. It just decides I wanted it off and it cancels. More bugs in this car by the day and nothing can be done about it, my shop won't address any software issues.

 

Could it be button malfunction? I can't think of reason for this if it was running at the set speed with no car in front. It should be basically working as the old school cruise control.

Unfortunately, that is exactly how it operates. No bug. If your hands are on the wheel, and it decides that it can't tell what is going on (poor road markings, or dirt on the sensors, for example) it will shut off without notification - except for the icon disappearing. It's great stuff, especially if you have ACC on. If your car is slowing down because of a vehicle in front, and the pilot assist disengages, you car will actually speed up to your preset speed. So you get no notification and the vehicle actually accelerating.

This topic has actually been beaten to death here. There are fanboys here who will try to convince you this behavior makes sense. I think it's ludicrous.

There's two different behaviors. One is the wheel turns from green to grey when it loses lines. I'm a fan boy and I find that behavior grossly unsafe. It should make an audible alert.

The other is the cancelled behavior. Where it just randomly decides to cancel. No idea why.

 

In my case, I was not talking about the pool it assist, just the regular adaptive cruise control.

 

It could be both. I'm more often on PA than ACC so I probably haven't had enough exposure.

What I would recommend is have the dealer make sure all of your software is up to date.

Then wait and see if it happens again, to eliminate some weird one time fluke. If it does happen again take it in to the dealership and have them fix it.

If you are getting close to the end of your warranty period/milage take it in even before it recurrs and have them check it out. At least that way you have a record of the fact that it was an issue before warranty ended, and have a much stronger case when pushing for then to take care of it

It will be a year old in December and will be going in for its 10K Service in 2 weeks.

 

its possible because of some conditions it will shut it self off. I drove a lot of older cars like buick olds kia etc and if those cars feel some wheel slip or something else on the road it will kill the cruise and u cant turn it on unless you restart the car. So possible something like that happens with Volvo esp if its adaptive cruise. Maybe camera got some sun glare or something else. I know it will shut off the curise or Autopilot if you keep driving with blinker(s) on.
