The AC compressor on my car ('01 S60 T5 GT) has begun shutting down if I idle for more than about a minute (long light, drive thru, etc) or if the car has been shut down and restarted while still warm. The compressor will start up again after driving a few minutes. Other than this the system works fine... blows ice cold. Usually run in full auto mode with temp set ~68deg, but changing settings doesn't make any difference... just getting back in motion. Any thoughts?
Possibly related: I noted last winter that the heat temperature was not well regulated. I did some searching and this probably is the fairly common climate control module failure. Could these be related?
Thanks!

Re: AC Issues (jcalabria)

its possible that its shutting off to remove some of the load on the engine so it doesn't overheat. not sure if this is really whats happening but it makes sense to me.

Re: AC Issues (phuz)

I thought about that possibility, but its never done it in the past and the engine temp is rock solid at its normal temp.

I assume your CE light has not come on?
Just because your engine temp gauge doesn't move does not mean that its not about to start overheating
there is a pretty wide fluctuation in temperature where that gauge just stands still in the middle...its definitely NOT linearly calibrated.

4 rules prohibits the AC compressor to run:
High engine temperature
Wide open throttle (WOT)
Engine recently started
System overpreassured (AC system)
In your case. I would suspect the 1st or 4th. Maybe your fan (radiator) doesn't work as espected?
Since it's a 01. Volvo had recalls on those fans.
But you local Volvo dealer should be checking this for you.
