So looks like we've fallen prey to the all too common ABS issue. Started awhile back while towing and then went away. BTW, '01 V70 T5 with 94K on it. Then it was off and on for a bit but now mostly stays on. I've read through several threads about it and it seems like the common solution is to use one of the two links provided to have it rebuilt. I guess my questions are pretty simple in regards to this:
1) Is there a way to verify this is what it is before spending the money on it? Or is this one of those situations where that's pretty much all it could be?
2) Being fairly mechanically inclind and such, is it something I could rebuild or does it just make more sense to simply pay the $150 shipped or so?
Any input is appreciated! Oh...are there any places in/near MN to have it done?

Re: ABS question. (alstensby)

For me I'd just have Victor fix it (I did just that). However if you keep searching, you'll find an article on how to resolder the bad connection inside. Sorry I didn't save it, but for the cost didn't seem worth the effort. You unplug the unit and you can still use the car (without ABS however), while it gets fixed. You plug it back in and you're good to go!
Jerry

Re: ABS question. (jjwoomer)

If you had an 850 then I would say 100% sure it was the ABS module, but since its an '01 it may be something else. Have you had a dealer pull any codes or look at it? It could be a wheel sensor, don't know.
If it does turn out to be the ABS module then send it to this dude:
http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha/
He fixed my 850 ABS module and it worked great.
As for fixing it yourself, good luck with your soldering iron...

1) Pull the OBD2 codes - if you see P1633 or P0000 it's almost certainly the ABS module. If you are getting STC service/ABS failure/Brake system failure messages in the DIM all together, 99% it's the ABS module failure.
2) If you want to fix it yourself: http://www.matthewsvolvosite.c...12651
You need to be decent with a razor knife and a soldering iron to fix it.
