Being a Volvo, I'm sure there are at least a few, but I my impression is that they are fairly reliable vehicles...certainly nothing to be avoided.

Re: About to purchase a 2006 XC70 Ocean edition. A few Questions? (JRL)

Well four days later and still working the deal. I have two dealers I am working with. One started at 500 over invoice (44500.00), with only conv pkg, rear seat ent, amp, climate pkg. He is now 1500 under invoice(43000.00). The other dealer has a loaded clim pkg, conv pkg., HU 850, rear seat ent, 4 C susp, xenon's, navi, and stability control for $38600.00. Both cars are Ocean race editions 2006.
I am still working on this deal, and having a hard time committing to the XC70 after several posts I have read here. This vehicle is replacing a 1999 Eddie Bauer Expedition. I know it will never be as large as the expedition, yet the price is baffling me as compared to the new 2007 expeditions.
What to do.
Randy B

Ask them to show you the current incentives on the vehicles. Perhaps the OC is in greater demand (I doubt it) but my XC70 deal last June was invoice minus incentives. It wouldn't be unreasonable to add $300-500 to the deal in a less competitive market. Remember that the incentives will likely go up as the model year comes to a close.
Price the OSD too. It's a wonderful experience and competitive on vehicles with low incentives.
Did you check the fleet offers -- Costco, Sams Club, AAA, Credit Unions, etc.? Internet sales at local dealers?

We purchased the XC70 Ocean Race Edition July 1st - list on the car was $43,500. We paid $36,000 for the car.
Had Convenience, Premium, and Cold Weather package. Big reason for purchasing the car was the fold in side view mirrors - living in the city & having a small garage make this a near necessity.
Drove it all weekend, and we love it. Our only concern is how light the interior is.

We love the interior color (especially the robins egg blue stiching), but with a dog, nephew & hanging out with horses, I can just imagine the dirt, hair, and spilled milk in the car!
The car also has cloth inserts (almost like sail cloth) along w/ the leather, and I'm more concerned about that.
It is a nice car though!

Re: (JRL)

I just returned from the VOR trip. The VOR blue is special in that it is a three step paint job instead of the usual Volvo two. It includes the pearl coat during application. Volvo said they will never do pearl with blues in any other way because of the added cost and special colaboration with the race. I haven't seen any xc70's locally yet, but all the 70's in Sweden are charcoal with blue anodized trim. They also had the VOR 70's in both gas and diesel. I went to pick up a 90, and all of those are beige. I don't think there will be any problem with cleaning the interior. Treat the leather and cloth like any other and you should be happy for a long time.
A side note is that the next Volvo Ocean Race is in 3 years. So, it will be a while before the opportunity (and color) comes around again.
