During Saturday's Ring meeting we were checking out the difference under the hood of several R's.
Of course the plastic IC pipe over the engine came up so we took a closer look at one of the '06's present.
The pipe is plastic indeed, The same as the alloy pipe from appearance but a pretty cheapo change from a quality point of view.
The first thing I noticed with this setup is that the compressor housing has been changed to the same type as used on the new '05+ T5.
The V-clamp is gone and a silicone coupler is used instead.
Can someone verify if the turbo part number of the KKK T5 and R are the same?

Something about the title of this thread is a little frightening. Kind of has a David Duke feel to it.
Anyway, do you have pics of the '06 IC pipe? I can't believe they'd change it to plastic. So silly. I've actually tossed around the idea of polishing mine. I guess that's one of the arguments you can make for getting an earlier year model...better quality, despite more bugs.
-Eric

There may be some advantages to the plastic....
- it may be smoother inside
- it won't suffer from heat soak as much

Mabye one of the other folks did.
The difference isn't that visible at first except that it doesn't look as natural alloy as the alloy version does. It looks like it's spray painted. The alloy brackets holding the alloy version in place aren't there. Instead 2 small mounting points are moulded in on the side of the pipe.
So at first quick glimpse it isn't really noticeable but when looking at it a bit better it really looks cheap.
Sorry about the KKK confusion btw..

Metal conducts heat FAR better than plastic.

to absorb heat is one...to emite heat is an other case
Therefore the "service"-sollution brake pads are just crap! Brake pads NEED their surface and thickness to cool the disc during braking!!! period (but that's OT)
My Rotors were constantly blue when I had less than 1mm left on front pads..the day after I swapped them with new original ones the disc's looked perfect.

I don't see any heat concerns in this part of the intake plumbing.
What does concern is the quality of the plastic pipe. The one we were looking at already had been replaced because the original one developed a crack near one of the mounting points..

Okay, maybe not so silly if the material proves advantageous. Isn't there more chance of deformation or constriction of the plastic from heat?
-Eric
