Get a PPG windshield. I went through two OEM windshields and finally switched to PPG with great luck. Your rain sensor gets transferred from the old glass to the new glass - your new glass only has the clip for it, they do not come with the sensor. |

I also went with PPG w/rain sensor when my OEM cracked for no apparent reason other than stress. I figured that if OEM glass is cracking just from stress, I don't want it. I see you're in Oakland.. you should check out Le Auto Glass on International. Just a little Vietnamese Mom & Pop place.. but they are EXTREMELY nice and proficient.. not to mention the price is always great. Have them order you a PPG windshield.. they can have it done real quick. Also.. I should mention.. Safelite SUCKS. I had them install mine before I knew about Le's and they had to come back 3 times because the tech jacked it up so bad. http://********************/smile/emthdown.gif on them for sure |

Is it just me or does the OEM glass scratch and pit really easily? Mine is scratched to hell by my wipers, even though they are never more than a few months old. |

Cool, thanks for the recommendation. I'll check them out. I'm actually not to keen on taking my car anywhere the insurance recommends... |

I went with an aftermarket window and my rain sensor has never worked since. Volvo dealership has looked at it many, many times and tells me "it's fine." Which means when they turn the hose on it, the wipers activate. So if I am driving up the Turnpike and someone turns a hose on me, I'm golden. If water comes from any other source (like the sky), I'm screwed. I asked them to turn it off and just make it a variable wiper, like in our minivan, and they told me "no can do." If I could go back in time, I would definietly pay a little extra for OEM. Just me. |

<crack>. and there went an other windshield, the 1st one. Actually it had a small crack since September 2008 (±5cm (±2") long at the far rightside) and did not got larger last Winter. Wanted to delay it as long as possible. Did the normal Saturday-grocery (trunk full) and on the drive home it cracked further horizontal 20cm towards the middle ![]() ![]() Will go for OEM-glass (de-glared, non-oem-glass would crack way sooner than months (harder thus stronger but could show sooner stonemarkings because it's harder), AND more even cut (no deformation in vision). Estimate dealercost last year was ±700EUR ... but he said i should ask price of some local-dude that replace windshields (and he does it even at the dealer ![]() ![]() ![]() EDIT: Have made the appointment for this Thursday and they will come and swap the windscreen at my home. Total cost 322,- euro (incl windscreen, labour, taxes,...) Edit2: Windscreen has been replaced ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() They billed me 322,- but I gave 340,- ... told him dealer would charge me 690,- so I want give lot's of " ![]() Modified by JARMO at 1:46 PM 3-23-2009 Modified by JARMO at 8:19 PM 3-26-2009 |
