It was great to see you and Blake again.
As I've said before on the forum and as I explained to Bob: It's very nice for me as a native "Göteborgare" to be able to show someone some of the lovely little spots that are well hidden for tourists... When out traveling in the world, I find that the best experience comes from having a local guide (who is not a greedy guide) if you know what I mean. Maybe you just want to get a restaurant recommendation (then this forum is great to post in). Maybe you want a full weekend with a driver... Bob, good to see you back here in rare form
 To Jonas for his warm hospitality while in G'borg.
Jonas, All of us give you and Anna a big 'Hej, hej" and we still have fond memories of our meeting. We wish you and Anna all the best for your wedding and future. Did you ever take that trip you were planning, all the way to the far north of Sweden?? We are doing our best to get back to Sweden next year to celebrate our 20th anniversary and will certainly let you know when that will be.
And to any OSD'ers or future ones, Jonas means exactly what he says. If you want some local information or guide, he will do his best to get you out of the typical tourist area and into the real heart of G'borg. He gave us some very helpful advice on our route to Kalmar before leaving and it truly paid off. Thanks again, Jonas.

Be sure to let me know if and when you're coming back!
Yes we made our trip! We went to Uppsala (close to Stockholm), followed the E4 all the way to the Finnish border in Happaranda, which is the east-most city in Sweden. Drove in the finnish road all the way to Karesuando, which is the northern most settlement in Sweden. The reason for driving on the finnish side was the quality of the roads. The Swedish ones are gravel roads! Can you belive it? The E45...
From there, we took a ferry and hiked to where the three countries, Swe-Nor-Fin, meet. Drove north into Norway. Narvik in Norway to Kiruna in Sweden. Down into the mines 800meters (~2400ft) below ground. VERY COOL! Jukkasjärvi Ice Hotel. Down through the middle of Sweden, stopping in Åre and Rättvik/Mora - places familiar to you I guess...
Back down to Göteborg. 10 days. Approx 2800 miles. A great trip!

Take care and maybe I'll see you soon?
//Jonas

No you cant.
The ferry leaves for Frederikshavn in northern Denmark. Its a 300 mile drive down to Copenhagen. The ferry leaves several times a day and you can take your car with you. Quite cheap. Takes about 3 hours. There is a high speed ferry which takes 1:45 hrs. Check it out at http://www.stenaline.se
The bridge is called "Älvsborgsbron" or The Älvsborg bridge. Road number is 159.
Sorry to be so picky...
//Jonas

Bob,
Great photos.
Thanks for sharing so quickly...
Man, you are making me feel like a slacker!
I haven't done anything with the photos from my trip to Goteborg and Stockholm in March. I've got some work to do so my family and friends can see the sights from Sweden.
William

Still - it's nice to travel by car. You can stop where ever you want, see what ever you want and choose the route as you go along. We usually stay in hostels or at campsites in a tent. Nice and primitive!
//Jonas

I typically stay in hostels as well when I travel around and most of the time they are very clean, and friendly.
Looks like a nice Volvo you have in the picture!

Wow. Great photos Bob!
They take me back to our first OSD. We did Goteborg-Oslo-Stockholm in a week.
We saw many of the same things, but in March, the gardens and fountains have a much different effect.
Time to start planning OSD #3, Summer edition I guess!

-Paul
