My dealer tells me that the XC90 has a REAR fog lamp. Is this true?
I've seen rear fog lamps in Europe. They're a GREAT feature for fog-prone areas which makes your vehicle much more visible to those followng you.
The dealer told me there's a switch for it on the dash and it makes one of the rear lights glow more intensely. Since I was looking the vehicle over in daylight, I couldn't tell the difference. Has anyone seen this rear fog lamp?
Thanks,
Bob

All Volvos have a rear fog lamp (left tail light). Your switch is right next to the front fog lights switch.
Yannis

Re: A rear fog lamp??? (GrecianVolvo)

I was going to reply to Bob to tell him yes indeed XC 90 has a rear fog lamp, but Yannis beat me to it.
It is only on one side of the car. I believe it's the left.
But I have to admit, I don't really know what it's for. My guess (based on the many storms etc. we get in New England USA) is that it's to help the driver behind me. Which is really cool and awesome etc. but given that I feel I need to be smart about it and know that's what it's for and ensure I'm not annoying the driver behind me. Am I on the right track?
Yes, you are on the right track and of course Yanis is also as usual.
The reason why the rear fog light is on the left (driver's) side is because the left side is where you are most likely to be passed on. The rear fog light makes your car much more visible from behind in bad weather.
To keep from annoying a driver behind you I would only use your rear fog light in heavy rain, snow and of course fog....if you use your rear fog light in good weather someone might think that your right brake light was out.
William

It comes in handy in all sorts of bad weather, thunderstorms, snowstorms, fog, etc.. I've used mine on many occasions and it's helped people see me. Also, if someone is tailgating you, you can switch it on and off a couple of times and they will back off quickly.
If the fogs were on both sides, people would think you are riding the brakes, so only the driver side is installed.
RJ

Re: A rear fog lamp??? (B518T)

A very timely discussion!!! I was doing a check on my S80 on the weekend, and actually thought that my rear right fog light was burned out! I was preparing to go in and get it changed . Thanks for letting me know its normal and only a left fog light exists!!!
