Pictures don't work, all I get is this error message: STATUS 403 Remote Access to this object forbidden This file cannot be directly accessed from a remote site, but must be linked through the Brinkster Member's site.

Yeah, I know. Should have remembered that when I posted. I was messing around with sizing of the smaller ones, and editing my page and just forgot that stupid brinkster.com doesn't allow linking. Of course they worked on my end since they'd already been loaded, but anyway, they should be fixed now.

So Michael, how hard was it to fit that 740 turbo grill. Is it a direct bolt on, or do you need to rig it a bit? Also, what year car is it from?
Nice BTW, if you don't mind, I may use a picture of yorus to start building out our User's Rides galleries (beginning with the 240 obviously)
George

I'll probably get some e-code headlights eventually, but that's as close as it will come to the Group A. The flathood, graphics, wheels, and spoiler probably won't make it onto my car (I like the rear spoiler, but it's hard to find and a bit much for my slow car).

quote:
Originally posted by [email protected]:
So Michael, how hard was it to fit that 740 turbo grill. All the trips to Home Depot is what took the most time because I could never get just the right hardware, and it wasn't always easy to measure. I had to buy all the bolts a little long so I'd have room for adjustment once I got it all together. I wrote up a procedure and parts list that can be found at the top of my links page. The grille I used comes from the '85-'89 740 Turbo, and I got mine off an '87 744T in a junkyard for $20.
There are three different eggcrate style grilles that look very similar. The flat hood European 240 Turbo had one with 7 holes vertically, per column (rare). The '85-'89 740 Turbo had one with 6 holes vertically, and the '90-92 740T & any 940T had one with 5 holes vertically. They all have 12 holes horizontally, and they all look the same unless you count the holes.

quote:
Originally posted by [email protected]:
Nice BTW, if you don't mind, I may use a picture of yorus to start building out our User's Rides galleries (beginning with the 240 obviously)
George

Yeah, that would be great. I like that side shot because of the way the light hits the car. It hides a major imperfection almost completely.

I've always liked the big round driving lights, but it seems like most people strongly dislike them. I'm thinking about fog lights under the bumper and rectangular or small round driving lights hidden behind the grille. Or I might just go with e-code headlights and the driving lights for max output and the cleanest look. Decisions, decisions...

Thanks guys. I love the Hella 500 look. I also went with those because the original Volvo accessory driving lamps closely resemble the 500s. I've never seen another 240 with the 500s, so I wouldn't be surprised if others thought the look was a little to garish. The rectangular fogs would be a nice addition, but alone, they strike me as a little boring. BTW, I'd love the euro lamps, but they cost about as much as I paid for the car! So I think not. PS, that 740 turbo grill looks excellent! I don't think it'd look right on my car, but it goes great with the white exterior. It'd look great on a red 240 too.
In response to jrocheunh, nope! I just bought this Volvo about a month ago. It's not an uncommon sight in the northeast. I'd love to find that damn trim piece. It's driving me nuts! The one piece I can't find at any boneyards.
Let's see some more 240s. I'll shoot the interior of my car this weekend. It's pretty decked out!

Indy, have you noticed that people charge outrageous prices on ebay for Volvo parts like trim and clocks. Forget paying $15 for that piece! I'll just keep grumbling about it until I find the piece

Crap. I took some digital shots of my car y'day with the new wheels on, but I can't get 'em in the PC. This cheesy secondhand digital cam isn't compatible with Win2K. To make matters worse, my scanner is working hit-or-miss, so it might be a while.
Yeah, I got the new wheels on Michael. 16 X 7" Epsilons with 225/50-16 Kumhos. I had a heck of a time with the fender lips. I tried rolling them with a baseball bat, but, in typical Volvo fashion, the fender lip is double-walled. The solution was a dead-blow hammer. It bent back enough of the lip to keep the tires from touching in almost all conditions (extreme suspension movement can still cause a light touch on the passenger-side, due to the arc of the Panhard rod.)
I'll try to get something up soon, cuz' dammit, I'm pretty proud of this car!

I'm sure I know what you're talking about, but by some other name. Right now my plan is a GT front spoiler, painted black (it's the flat wrap-around style). I'll use the 2 holes for brake ducting (can't hurt, right?). Maybe fab some fiberglass ducts to funnel into a round hose, but I've never worked with FG, so I might not be able to do it.

quote:
Originally posted by ACD:
The rectangular fogs would be a nice addition, but alone, they strike me as a little boring.

I agree that they're kind of boring, but I've got some other exterior mods planned that will more than make up for it.

quote:
BTW, I'd love the euro lamps, but they cost about as much as I paid for the car!

If I buy them, I'll go through a guy in Europe. Juha at volvonet.org sells complete sets for $250, and shipping is under $100. I talked with another guy by email who lives in Denmark that can get euro lights too, but I never got around to getting a price. The aftermarket version is around $350/set, but the quality is not quite as good as OEM Volvo (Cibie).

quote:
PS, that 740 turbo grill looks excellent!

Thanks!

quote:
It'd look great on a red 240 too. I'll be using 225/50/15 tires next summer, so I'll have some bending and cutting to do since my car is lower, but my tires are 1" shorter. I've banged on one of the fender lips with a hammer and it hardly moved! I'll probably just cut most of the lip off. After seeing 245s on the back of a 242 and 225/40/18 all-around on a GT, I think mine should fit fine.
