New Evaporator. new blower motor, new resistor pack AND a new heater core,
Total installed price, approx $1100! http://********************/smile/emthup.gif
One of my 2000's has been needing a recharge twice a year so when I first turned on the AC last week for the first time in 6 months... nothing.

I figured no time like the present, so along with a new Evap I installed a new blower motor, resistor pack and heater core.
All the other parts were working fine but since there's no extra labor involved and since everything was out and apart, the age old adage applied, measure twice cut once so I replaced everything that would fail eventually... now.
(The heated core was starting to slightly corrode, probably only good for one to two more years anyway).
This was our Black 2000 V70R, lowest mileage and the keeper of the two I own.

If I had to rely solely on a dealer to service these cars, I don't know if I'd own one. I'm fortunate to have an excellent independent Volvo shop 9 miles down the road. I also have a mechanic who works on Volvos out of his home garage I use for the labor-intensive jobs like rear-main seals, etc.. I told him if my evaporators ever go, I'm coming to him.

You must get a better deal than most as a frequent customer!

I was pleasantly surprised that my ac was blowing ice cold in a recent warm spell.

I think I am looking at the rear main seal on my '99 GLT (small oil leak between back of motor and transmission) sometime over the next year. My local shop has a labor rate of around $90 so I guess I am looking at north of $1,000 for that job.

Sounds like a good deal. I know that my Evaporator was changed about 2-3 years ago based on the previous owners bills. So far can't complain.
I too believe the "While you are in there" mind set.
Talk about expensive labor, most Volvo dealerships where I live charge between 99$ and 125$ CDN per hour. Don't break down in Montreal. It'll cost ya an arm and a leg!

I wish I could see the deleted posts

I am shocked this tread is not locked yet.

I wish fixing the AC was not so expensive

but That is a good deal compared to other dealers.

No it appears YOU CANNOT, now I'll just have to be the ass and repeat it becuase you seem to be an even bigger one, you just can't shut up can you?
The statement I said was his mechanic messed up on an e brake repair. (big friggen deal)
In itself a rather harmless statement, but he had to blow this out of proportion for whatever reason and continue...

I deleted it because he asked me to but continues to open his mouth with statements like the above so it's now it's put back.
REALLY important statement wasn't it!
worth it to open your mouth?

Here's how a decent human being would handle it Jim: They'd send a PRIVATE email or PM with a note saying something like, "Hey, keep an eye on your mechanic; he didn't do such a good job on that e-brake repair."

Here's how you handled it:

Yeah, and your mechanic messed up the e-brake repair. Looks like you get what you pay for.
Complete with an eye-rolling emoticon, and you posted it in PUBLIC.

I don't get how Jim's comment is such a big deal.
Are you embarrassed by something?
If So...WHAT?

"Yeah, and your mechanic messed up the e-brake repair. Looks like you get what you pay for."

This strikes me as a simple statement of fact. No Biggie. It appears that it only matters to you.
( And now YOU'RE making a big noise about it IN PUBLIC !
)
Stuff happens, man. Fact 'O' Life! I don't understand why you're so bent outta shape...

Have a beer on me and get over it.

I agree with BEJinFbk.

My VERY first Volvo/Mechanic experience was a HORRIBLE mess. The self proclaimed Volvo expert had my car for several days trying to solve why it was dumping fuel into the engine. Finally told me it was the ECU and would cost me THOUSANDS! I sent it to Volvo and it was the front O2 sensor.

Stuff happens, not my fault, not yours.

Re: (ViriiGuy)

It's really nobody's business but mine and Jim's, but evidently the fact that I've bought two cars from him and thought we were on friendly terms means nothing. He evidently thinks scoring zinger points on an internet forum is more important than maintaining good relations or getting repeat business.

That's when you treat people right, and they buy from you more than once. In case you were unclear on that.

Re: (volvotool)

You bought ONCE.
(You returned the 2nd car that I legally or even morally didn't have to take back, but did anyway).
You really want to continue this?

You started this sh*t, Jim. Just had to mouth off and make one of your petty, bitchy comments. Complete with emoticon use that would do a 13-year old girl proud.

Sure, I'll continue it, if you like. I'll post high-res pics of the car illustrated with your descriptions of same.
