Hi guys,
I am new here.
I am one of the guys who was looking into the Evolution and STi, but thought I would need something different.
But I do have a couple of questions, because yes, I would be modifying the car enginewise.
What Turbo is being used on the S60R?
how much boost is the engine able to run?
Are any of the internals forged, etc.?
How much power has been driven here?
How much power can the tranny/clutch take?
How does the AWD manage/handle the extra HP?
Id be looking at around 400-450HP at the crank and it would be daily driven.
I am prolly gonna come up with a couple more questions.
thx for any real answer

magoon...we got locals popping up left and right
although this could be good for us...having Stadel get used to seeing R's around might make them more on the ball!

Well, most of your questions can be answered by searching. All that info has been discussed repeatedly.
Basically, for you to get hat kind of HP at the crank requires more money than the car is worth. Buy an Audi RS4 if you want that kind of performance and AWD, it will end up being cheaper.

Personally, I wouldn't drive an Evo or STi daily period, so if I were in your position, the RS4 is the only route, because it sounds like you want AWD. Pricey, but if you want those numbers comfortably, the R will come in no less than 8 or 10 grand cheeper with NO WARRANTY, and if you sit in an EVO or and STi for more than 10 minutes, you'll start feeling sorry for yourself... hope you got the cash, man. Good luck!

Re: A couple of technical questions (JOSBRO)

Thanks for the answers guys. I had no idea that it would be such a problem.
I had searched, but didnt come up with specific answers. Some people running 22+PSI on the turbo, etc., so I had wondered what HP numbers are possible.
I simply wanted to go a different route, but if it is such a problem, might have to rethink it all.
I don't want an Audi, they are not that fun to drive.
I am from Germany and moved here just recently. I have seen many S60R on the Nurburgring being very quick around turns and of course the straight.
I don't wanna be put in the Street Racer scene, which would happen with an Evo or STi, as I don't streetrace, but do like to go on backroads or on trackdays, etc.
I like all 3 cars and am not too worried about the 3-4K difference in price with some options, but i was looking for better HP numbers, simply because there are such possibilities.
I would get an STI and replace the seats with some nicer Recaros. I also heard a rumor that Sub will be coming out with a more refined (R?) STI without the wing, and with leather interior, so maybe this is the car for you.

Good luck finding one though if you decided that you like it.

Best bet?
Buy a B5 Aud S4 with a Stage 3 turbo upgrade.
Yup - the car will be a '02, but better build quality, true 4WD, and 400+ HP. If you go hybrid turbos you're talking 500+....

search for info posted by BOOSTED S60R. He's probably pushed the HP limit the furthest on this forum.

Re: A couple of technical questions (undutched)

The turbo is a KKK K24 turbo and I believe there are a couple of companies that have the hp numbers that you are looking for...MTE is around 425 for about $12K and Svenske (when they were around had a stage II for about $6500...they are no longer around), IPD has their V70R wagon that they sold which had over 400 hp (not sure if they are working on releasing a kit right now). There are a couple more that can do custom tunes (Rica for one) though I am not sure if any of them are actually selling a stage III kit.
I am not sure about the maximum boost the engine is able to run or how much power the internals can take, but if you talk to AtSpeed, they will be able to do wonders to your engine.
There are a few people here with over 400 at the crank...I've even heard of someone mentioning a dealer somewhere is servicing a 600 hp R, so it is possible. I was very close to getting Svenske's Stage II which was good for about 450, but I backed out at the last minute.
The clutch would definitely wear out as it is the weakest link and if I remember correctly, the guys at AtSpeed were having problems with the tranny with all their massive hp gains. At 450 hp, you are looking at 180 hp/liter...that is a lot. I thought a couple of items were forged (pistons and rods if I am correct) but I am not 100% sure.
Also, if your Haldex AWD unit gets too hot out on the track, it will shut down the system as some have experienced. Someone else can add to that statement.
Anyone please correct me if I am wrong.
I love my R, it is rare and makes me smile every time I get in it.
Good luck,
Paul

I'll sell you a 2005 6.0L GTO with 12k miles for $23k even. 400hp to start. You can supercharge it and get over 500hp no problem.
I love my R. The looks and comfort supersede the ability to mod extensively IMO. Been down that road...a long long way down that raod...the road that has no end!
Good luck with whatever you choose.
