A/C charging Question?

My son's 95 GLT needs a r134a boost. I found the port to charge but the fitting looks to me like the old r12 type. Is this normal? Do I need to install an adapter nipple on the line to make this work? The manual says to just use a R134a kit to charge.

Modified by dwehking at 3:13 PM 12-31-2005

I have no idea but the odds on are that it will need an evaporator, ($1,000 to $1,300)
If this is the first time he's found the A/C to be low it may take a charge for a few weeks but will still leak.
Eventually it will only hold for a few days, at most

I shud have mentioned that the previous owner had the evaporator swapped out in Jan 2000.

Sounds like you're right on schedule for another evaporator.
I'd keep feeding it R134a until then.

I got it charged up yesterday with help from a friend with gauges. Will see how long it lasts.
