My roof rack cross bars tighten on the rails with what looks like tamper-proof Torx type socket screws (little pin sticking up in the center of the screw). Are these the factory bits, or do they sound like something someone changed for added security? If factory, where can I find one of these wrenches?

They are called security torx bits. You can probably get a full set of various security bits on amazon for ten bucks if I had to guess.

I think Harbor Freight sells them if you have one near by. Are they of poor quality? Probably, but they are cheap and will almost definitely work for that purpose.

I picked up a bit for mine at Lowe's.

Well, that makes more sense than I expected. :D I figured every XC with roof racks would come with a fancy Volvo-logo'd tamper-proof torx key in the glove box. Off to Lowes I go...

the wrench is available from the dealer part number 8624192 MSRP $18.31.

...but you could buy an entire security torx bit set for that amount.
